I am Anna Bauereis, Alexei was my son. He was struck by a car and killed June 7, 2016, while walking a friend home from our house.
We found a poem he wrote in his bible about how one could dance and express themselves instead of holding in their words.
We want to take this poem and turn it into a children’s picture book to help others that are bullied. This is the launching of a larger project of a series of journal books for dancers to process where they are going and how to work through and/or handle the demands of dancing.
We are asking for $1300 to start the publishing of the book.
Our son was a beautiful ballet dancer and was bullied for it. We want to share with other dancers that they are not alone, and to encourage any boys or young men to pursue the art/sport if they are interested. We want the message delivered while they are young; hence the children’s picture book.
Risks and challenges
The book is completed and illustrated, the challenge is to get it published and delivered quickly. I am trying to get the book printed and available for people in October which is Bully awareness month. Also, we are coordinating with the showing of the film "Danseur" in Austin on October 26. Alexei is one of the dancers interviewed in the documentary. https://youtu.be/IhwPMbke0Xk. A recent survey revealed that nearly 96% of male ballet dancers stated that they faced physical or verbal attacks because of dance.
Although this project appears small, it will greatly impact many lives.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
