That's right! Our Full Metal Jacket Diary Kickstarter campaign may be over, but you can still support our project! Most of the rewards below are still available. Simply email us at email@example.com letting us know what you want. Once we confirm availability, you can send payment via PayPal and we'll ship your rewards. It's that easy! You can also pre-order the audiobook directly from the Spectra Music Group store.
"I was completely and utterly absorbed. There really is nothing like [Full Metal Jacket Diary] out there!" – Vivian Kubrick, Stanley's daughter
"Totally brilliant" – David Morrissey, actor ("The Governor"), The Walking Dead
"Full Metal Jacket Diary creates a world you get to live in. And who wouldn't want to be on set with Stanley Kubrick?" – Tim Kirk, Producer, Room 237
"Manna from Heaven for Kubrick enthusiasts." – Lee Unkrich, Director, Toy Story 3
In 1985, Stanley Kubrick encouraged a young actor named Matthew Modine to keep a journal and take photographs while playing the lead role of Pvt. Joker on the set of the Vietnam War film, Full Metal Jacket. In 2005, Modine published a limited edition book of his diary and photos which later became an interactive experience for the iPad. Now, with the Full Metal Jacket Diary Audiobook, fans can listen to Modine as he performs his diary with immersive sound effects and original music. You'll be taken back in time nearly 30 years and get a first-hand account of what it was like to work with Kubrick for the two years it took to complete the film. The audiobook features five chapters – Private Life, Vietnam, Boot Camp, On Leave, and Boot Camp Redux – totaling nearly four hours of audio. Here's a few samples.
Sample 1: Matthew has a chance encounter with Val Kilmer.
Sample 2: Matthew learns the difference between "playing" and "being."
Sample 3: Matthew tells Kubrick a joke.
Sample 4: Vince and Matthew are ready to come to blows!
By pre-ordering your copy of the FMJ Diary Audiobook on Kickstarter, you'll be helping us remaster the audio, design and produce an all-new 20-page photo booklet, and cover the "pressing" costs for the first run of physical CDs. $12,000 is the bare minimum we need to get this done, but the more we raise, the more CDs we can produce. Extra funds will allow us to update our website and run a successful social media and marketing campaign for the audiobook's release.
The primary reward is the audiobook. You can either pre-order the digital version for just $15 or get the 4-disc CD set with photo booklet mailed to your home for only $25. We need to pre-sell approximately 480 CDs to reach our goal, but we have great rewards for any budget!
Note: If you want to combine rewards, simply pledge the total dollar amount and email us so we know which rewards to send you. For example, if you want the poster ($35) and the Blu-ray ($100), simply pledge $135 and let us know! We'll make a special note next to your name in the Backer report.
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge is time. Most of our creative team have "day" jobs, which means we'll have to work around their busy schedules. This is always a challenge when working on a small independent project. There's also the risk of sickness or injury. None of this will prevent us from completing the project, but it could cause delays.
The delivery dates listed for each reward tier are our best "estimates" based upon what we know now. We will fulfill all the existing rewards (Blu-rays, prints, books) first, then produce and ship the custom Kickstarter rewards (posters), and last, we'll send out the audiobooks.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
