The main purpose of the Kickstarter campaign is to create easy to use and informative online video and tutorials. This is what is currently lacking in today's drone kits. We are currently working with designers and graphic artists to compose our knowledge into easy-to-understand documentation that a 12-year-old can understand and utilize. We'll walk you through each setup and show you how to go even further.
Some of the areas we are excited to improve upon as we receive funding include:
- moving from the 3d printed parts to injection molded parts.
- providing custom cases
- including even more spare parts.
Descendant of Giants
We've designed and fabricated 40+ quadcopter designs for professional and hobby racing. That said, creating Project Icarus should have been easy, but there were a number of challenges we have overcome that arise only for a package like this, designed specifically for novices and kids. Probably why no one else has done this yet!
We spent months and created dozens of prototypes in order to solve problems with everything from simple construction to finding the right weight to strength to flight time ratios. It's been an arduous process that is culminating with a high quality, well-designed product, and package.
Making quadcopters easy for the next generation of the pilots!
This is only something we can do with a larger investment in the project. In fact, every aspect of the project can be improved with a larger audience invested. We can provide custom cases, high-quality components, spare parts, better documentation, and instructions. This is why we've turned to Kickstarter. We can do this project on our own, but it will be so much better if we do it together.
As parents, we know how important it is to engage with our kids on a project that is fun for them and us, while at the same time educational! This is a chance for parents to engage with your kids on something parents and their kids will be truly excited about. Building a drone teaches STEM skills, analytical thinking and problem solving skills.
Easy to Understand Materials
Project Icarus will help you overcome the technical hurdles of quadcopters. With our easy to use manuals and online tutorials, you don't have to have a background in drones or technology to be able to help your child build and create! You'll see how easy it really is to understand how drones work, how to fix them, and how to fly them.
FPV (First Person View)
Flying a quadcopter has never been more exciting than now with First Person View or FPV. FPV means that your child will view their flight front the camera on their drone. This provides the experience that you are flying your drone from the cockpit in real-time via wireless communication. This is what virtual reality wishes it could be.
Fun Social Activity
FPV gives you the opportunity to fly by yourself or with your friends. Project Icarus will teach you radio frequencies and how to manage them. It's not rocket science... or maybe it was... but it's completely doable for anyone regardless of technical knowledge.

Project Icarus quadcopters are made from the same materials as professional racing drones: a mixture of high-grade carbon fiber frame, electrical, and 3D printed components. We have a track record of making long-lasting high-performance drones. We've taken that expertise and designed a kid-friendly package specific geared towards learning and fun.

With Project Icarus, we want to do more than just help kids fly drones. We want to provide a gateway for parents and kids to interact in new ways. Project Icarus allows both you and your child to learn, grow, play and have fun together.

Costs and Other Financial Information
we've done the numbers. In fact, we've bought all of these parts numerous times at full retail prices. If you can find them and assuming you know what you are looking for. And that is a bigger challenge than it might seem. Everything has to be compatible and not everything is sold in one place. By the time you get a set of parts that all work together you could easily spend upwards of $300 for a similar setup. That does not include all the extra cost including shipping or any other fees from a half-dozen stores.
At Flynoceros, not only are we providing all the parts in one place, we are providing an easy and reliable resource to get replacements, information, resources, and support. All of that is built into the cost! This is how we are investing your support into Project Icarus.
We are going to make and do as many things for this project as we possibly can. It doesn't matter how far past our goal we go, we are just going to keep working to provide the best product possible to everyone.
This is a simple project. The real and only goal is to develop a body of knowledge that can be put out there for a generation that will live in a world where drones are as common as cars are now. If we succeed in this project our goal, stretched or not, is to provide you with all the resources you need in a format that you can you easily understand. That's something no one else is doing and this is a chance to help us be the first.

2 of the biggest points of improvement we are working on currently are the following:
- Working with Case manufacturers to design and fabricate custom Icarus Cases.
- Working with Injection Molding fabricators to take our currently 3d printed parts to the next level.

Risks and challenges
There is very little to no risk with this project. We have established relationships with our vendors and we have all the resources needed to finish our project. What we want to is focus on refinements and informational materials, both in paper form and virtual, that you can use to really make this a simple, fun and engaging project for you and your family.
