The Adventures of the Flying Furniture Book Publishing
The first in a series of novels about flying furniture and their balloons, good versus evil and the power of believing in oneself.
The Flying Furniture started out as sketches and grew into a small children's book that my husband self-published a few years ago. Living in the UK for a year and , well, life, prevented us from spending a ton of money on our little book. BUT...the idea was so wonderful and England was such a fantastic muse, that we decided to go BIGGER! I am publishing a novel- whew... I said it out loud. There is quite a bit that goes into publishing and let's face it, ink and paper are expensive but there is nothing like holding a fresh, new book in your hand. You are excited to crack open that crisp, bright, fantastic cover and see what adventures await you on each page. For all the readers and lovers of books out there, take a peek at what's below to learn a little more about The Adventures of the Flying Furniture and my quest to make my dream, a reality...
Have you ever wondered, what if? I wonder that all the time. Have you ever wondered, what if something as ordinary as furniture could fly? Dare to make the ordinary, extraordinary in the first installment of The Adventures of the Flying Furniture: The Return of the Great Flyer. Travel back in time to the post -industrial revolution in a dynamic late -Victorian London for a whimsical tale of good versus evil and the power of the human spirit. Our story follows protagonist Henry Worthen, a clockmaker and inventor whose greatest skill seems to be disappointing his mother and wealthy aristocratic stepfather.
On a very random, very ordinary day, Henry meets Jack; a quirky magical chair and its enormous hot air balloon. From the moment Henry meets the mysterious old Queen Anne chair, his life is NEVER ordinary again. After all, it's not every day that a chair comes to life! Henry must learn to believe in himself and to believe in the magic around him as he discovers the answers to lifelong questions about his late father and also about his own identity, his birthright and his destiny.
Join Henry, Jack and others on their quest for the Golden Pin as they lead the mysterious Order of the Flyer in a battle against the nefarious Roman Hatfield who seeks to take control of London, its citizens and ultimately, the Order's fleet of magical furniture. Enjoy adventure, Victorian charm, and fantasy with a little dash of steampunk.
The funds raised by this campaign will help with various costs associated with publishing, branding and marketing Flying Furniture Adventures. Help me to share my story with the world. Our funding breakdown is as follows:
Editing costs will be our first expense- I have to make sure I have dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's.
Physical publishing will require the bulk of the funding. This will include copywriting the Flying Furniture Adventures brand and registering with the Library of Congress.
We will continue to build the Flying Furniture Adventures brand with a detailed marketing campaign which includes: social media marketing on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and SnapChat; Search Engine marketing, and print advertising. We will also use these funds to create promotional items like the Golden Pins.
We need a snappy website to showcase our brand and very first novel. There will be excerpts from the book, a blog, tons of artwork and even an animated video or two. An addendum to our plan is to include a build-your-own balloon interactive activity on the website, coloring books for the Junior Flyers and an interactive curriculum for classrooms! We want to kids, particularly teenagers, to keep READING! Your pledges will help keep retail costs down and assist us with providing curriculum materials, eBooks and paperbacks to homeschool co-ops and teacher colleagues to test out our lesson plans and activities.
Graphics and artwork are important. They create the visual aspect of the story. As a visual artist, I have and will create some of the artwork myself but have also assembled a talented team of graphic designers and illustrators to create images as fantastic as the book itself! They do it because they believe in us but everyone deserves to be compensated for their brilliant and very hard work.
Miscellaneous expenses will cover unexpected things like a slight increase in shipping costs, printing costs, and fees.
$3000 - additional marketing and promotional materials: bookmarks, even more Golden Pins and balloon charms and ornaments
$3500- Animated Video of Jack, further book donations to non-profits promoting literacy and the arts
$5000- interactive build-your-own balloon activity on the website, complete the second novel in the series, The Adventures of the Flying Furniture: The Search for the Sacred Heart
$6000- Begin marketing the second novel, etc...
Risks and challenges
My team and I- (that sounds so legitimate; my hardest-working team member is actually my husband!) have a fairly strict timeline that we will follow in regards to publishing and distributing your rewards. We have already contacted a viable printer with associates who will assist in applying for copyrights, IBN numbers and other red tape sort of business associated with publishing a book.
We have sourced all materials for artworks and are in the process of fabricating those really neat Golden Pins! My husband and I are artists, graphic designers and fabricators, giving us the ability to be hands-on in each aspect of this campaign.
Our greatest foreseeable challenge will be delays in online publishing and/or printing, but we are prepared to meet that challenge by ensuring that both the eBook and paperback are properly formatted prior to submission and printing. We have been very liberal with our prospective timeline for distributing rewards: our hope is that you will be pleasantly surprised when your package arrives early!
