Help Support FluxFlow Dance Project's first self produced evening length work!
'Red Patience' is a brand new dance performance premiering in Columbus, Oh.
Bridging the worlds of fiction, mythology, and modern life, 'Red Patience' explores intimacy and vulnerability for those who find themselves on the outside of normal.
Drawing inspiration from Anne Carson's novel "Autobiography of Red," FluxFlow Dance Project's co- founder and resident choreographer, Russell Lepley, uses a multidisciplinary approach to express complex truths that seem personal, but are ultimately universal.
This new work melds dance, theater, live music and themes/imagery from Ann Carson's text. The performers journey through moments of humor, mania, intimacy, and vulnerability as they embody the "little red monsters" that exist in all of us.
'Red Patience' will be performed at the Fisher Theater in Columbus, OH on December 7th and 8th at 8pm & December 9th at 2pm
Why is it important?
This work will encourage a richer dialogue within Columbus' arts community. By embodying stories that break from conventional ideas of love, gender roles, and belonging, we are providing a valuable counterpoint to more traditional representations of dance currently available in our city. Our intention as a project is to display the multivalent qualities of human existence. Life's multiplicity is breath-taking and art exploring that truth helps communities develop tools to process and articulate that complexity.
Who is FluxFlow Dance Project?:
We are a small group of experienced dancers who've come together in Columbus. Our diverse areas of expertise and unique backgrounds are melded together in the spirit of exploration. Our mission is to create compelling works that explore the human condition with a focus on utilizing cross-disciplinary collaboration between music, dance, theater and the visual arts.
FluxFlow Dance Project was co-founded by Russell Lepley and Filippo Pelacchi, who met, married, then moved to Columbus, Oh after spending many years working as professional dancers abroad in Europe. The company is housed at Flux + Flow Dance & Movement Center, a space, renovated and built from the ground up by Russell and Filippo, that aims to offer non-judgmental, "come as you are" movement classes for adults and children. The company sprung from a desire to continue performing and to bring something different to the growing contemporary dance scene in the Columbus community that we all, now, call home.
Risks and challenges
Building a new contemporary dance company is no easy feat. In order to make the magic of live performance happen there are emails to be sent, marketing material to be made and countless hours spent arranging the small details of what goes into the final product. Right now, we are brand new and our small team collaborates on all these elements to be sure that we can make this show a reality. There is substantial financial risk in this. FluxFlow Dance Project is funding this project in it's entirety, employing 5 professional artists including one composer, renting space from a local theater for the performance and arranging all the production factors. Our team may be small but they are mighty- Being sure that their experience and talents are compensated for with a fair, living wage takes highest priority for us. To create work of depth and quality takes time and an enormous amount of effort. We have taken the initiative to raise funds through the Greater Columbus Arts Council and other smaller fundraisers, but we need help raising the rest. With your support and contribution, FluxFlow Dance Project can ensure that our team is compensated fairly for all their hard work and sweat. THANK YOULearn about accountability on Kickstarter
