The FT Aviator is currently compatible with the Phantom 3 and 4, the Mavic series, Inspire 1 and 2, and the Matrice series. We will continue to work on compatibility with other DJI models as our technology and the DJI Air Force grows.
The FT Aviator is not currently compatible with other makes and models of drones, but we are actively working on integration of a transmitter that would allow for command and control of FPV racing drones and other DIY hobbyist drones.Last updated:
No. The FT Aviator is not designed to be water resistant, and that’s not good flying weather anyway…!Last updated:
The FT Aviator comes with an internal, rechargeable LiPo battery. Estimated battery life on a single charge is 5 hours. The FT Aviator can also be operated while it is charging.Last updated:
The FT Aviator is compatible with iOS 9.0 and later, as well as Android 4.4 and later.Last updated:
The app will be free to download in both Google Play and iTunes app store.Last updated:
No, the FT Aviator works in concert with your DJI radio, preserving the transmission of high-quality video data. We have developed our FT Nav app through DJI’s software developer kit, catered to the unique features of our system, so the basic look and feel will be very familiar to DJI pilots.Last updated:
For commercial drone operators, the FT Aviator will open up capabilities that might otherwise require a second video operator. You’ll not only be able to adjust your FT Aviator’s responsiveness on the fly (in order to speed to the scene quickly and then slow rates for a detailed inspection, for example), you’ll have more capacity to focus on the job you’re out there to do, rather than how you’re going to get to your target. Additionally, given the ease of piloting with the FT Aviator, you’ll need less proficiency training to stay current, and enterprise clients should be able to onboard new pilots with less initial training time.Last updated:
The FT Aviator is ideal for you too! Instead of having to concentrate on two independent joysticks on a conventional drone radio, you’ll be able to maneuver your aircraft with ease and precision with a couple minutes of practice. By simply thinking of your thumb tip as the nose of your drone, you’ll be able to climb, pitch, yaw and roll with the best, and you’ll be able to capture stunning imagery by accessing key features right from our controller.Last updated:
The FT Aviator reduces pilot workload by putting the primary flight controls in a single hand. The base is optimized for improved access to camera control, typically held comfortably in the non-dominant hand, and features a 1/4-20 mount for a tripod. An old fashioned two-thumbed gaming controller requires iteration, thought and practice. With the FT Aviator, even a first-time drone pilot can do a perfect Figure 8 or an inward-facing, ascending spiral within 5 minutes of a brief introduction.
There are other cool features incorporated into the controller to provide situational awareness cues, improve safety and improve upon the camera control features of a typical radio. The FT Aviator also gives tactile feedback when inputting a command, and also when not, which can be just as important.

We'll be shipping with a smartphone holder. We have prototyped compatibility with tablets, and we'll be conducting additional testing in the coming weeks. We are targeting the release of a tablet holder by the end of the first quarter of 2019.Last updated:
Unfortunately, our FT Aviator output is Bluetooth so we are not compatible with CrystalSky at this time.Last updated:
We've not forgotten about our left-handed friends! With the FT Aviator you simply install the smartphone holder onto the right side of the base unit, pivot the smartphone clamp 180 degrees and you're ready to fly!Last updated:
We plan to be compatible with other makes and models in the future, but for our product launch we are focusing on the current DJI line of aircraft.Last updated:
One of the main reasons we launched via Kickstarter was to get early customer feedback on our product as well as messaging (we're not using the funds to build tooling or to bring our product to life - we're well past that). We will continue to refine both after we conclude our Kickstarter campaign. What we’ve done is put flight control in a single hand - rather than two thumbs. Your non-dominant hand is then freed up to access much-improved camera controls. Flight becomes almost a subconscious activity, allowing you to really focus on what you're doing with your drone, rather than the mechanics of how you're going to get there. Does this support the DJI Phantom 4 Pro and Phantom 4 Advanced, in particular the models with integrated monitors?
Yes and no: the FT Aviator will control the Phantom 4 Pro and the Phantom 4 Advanced that do not have an integrated monitor. If you have the integrated high luminance display (the "+" versions of the Phantom 4), unfortunately, these devices have an embedded Android device that currently make them incompatible with the FT Aviator.Last updated:
