For backers at the $25.00 level or higher we will send you a copy of the exhibit catalog. We will gather all info related to distribution of incentives via a survey once we reach our goal. Don't forget - Kickstarter is "all or nothing" -- if we don't reach our goal we won't receive any of your donations. Please continue to spread the word.
What is FLUID?
FLUID is a photography exhibition showcasing the work of bi* identified artists from around the world. It will be held in June, 2014 as part of Toronto's WorldPride celebrations - an international gathering that celebrates the activism, education, history and culture of global LGBTQ communities. Visibility has never been more important.
Meet a few of our participating artists...
We believe that art can change lives.
To be heard, to see yourself represented, and to see yourself celebrated is a magical, transformative experience for any community.
We also believe that artists have a unique voice.
Artists build bridges, change perceptions and open hearts.
This is more than just a gallery show; it's also our way of building community. Our goal is to create a space that celebrates diversity in all its wonderful variations - so whether you identify as queer, bi, pansexual, fluid, omnisexual, two-spirit, asexual - or you don't like labels at all - we invite you to join us this June. In our space you can be gloriously and unapologetically yourself.
The gallery will be a supportive, creative, energetic hub that will be used for workshops, poetry readings, artist talks and more. For one month Toronto will have a "home away from home" for bisexuals.
How will we use your pledge?
So far, all costs relating to the show have been paid for by the organizers. But we need your support to continue our work.
Our overhead costs are modest and are mostly covered by the additional fundraising we are undertaking, but we do need your help to cover our outstanding balance for rent and insurance ($2,000).
WorldPride is a global celebration, and with your support the FLUID exhibit will be a truly international event. It's expensive for artists to print, ship and frame artwork so we are going to offer print and framing bursaries to artists who demonstrate financial need ($1,000).
Our final expense is the exhibition catalog ($1000) where the artists will share insights into their work in their own voice, alongside reproductions of their photographs. Not only does the catalog help contextualize their work, it makes a great keepsake.
If we raise more than our minimum goal, we will increase the number of bursaries available. We are strongly committed to making this a truly global show, and want keep production costs for artists manageable.

Risks and challenges
The FLUID collective has many years of experience in the queer community, as activists, artists and performers. We have proven expertise in project management, fundraising, bookkeeping, curation, marketing and outreach. We're comfortable with deadlines, competing priorities, and snafus.
We are ready to handle all obstacles, and are confident that our energy and enthusiasm will carry us through.
Our gallery team is experienced and excited to be working on this project with us. We are working closely with them on the production and technical aspects of the show as well as associated marketing and outreach efforts.
Don't forget, Kickstarter is "all or nothing." If we don't meet our goals we won't receive ANY of your donations (and that would make us very sad). Your support is critical to the success of this show.
Thank you for your time, and please continue to spread the word about the show, and about our Kickstarter campaign.
See you in June!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Although the project is listed under Catherine's name, we are actually a collective of three Toronto-based artists who came together specifically to organize this show.
We do not own the gallery space - it is only rented for the month so that we would have a place to show off the amazing work that was submitted. We also wanted a place to host related cultural events. As you can imagine, rent is our largest expense.
Yes and no. While Kickstarter does not accept fully anonymous donations, you can choose any name or nickname for your profile and this is what will appear on the published "backers" list. So ... let your imagination run wild!
When we say our thank-you's on the website and exhibition catalog, we will be in touch before we publish anything to find out how you would like to be named.
Scroll down. Scroll way, way down. (Yes, we're sorry). You will reach a section labeled "Incentives." You have two choices -- "A" or "B" - and these are for limited edition prints by Michael or Catherine. I know we said your choices were "on the left" but as it turns out we can't edit this field once someone has donated so look left. And then look down. Way down.
