Flos Aliena first landed at the Autumn Lights Festival at the Gardens at Lake Merritt two years ago. Since then, this panspermic Alien Flower has grown, and now begins to spread. Thirty additional 20-foot tall 'stamen' (LED spires) will now have spread from the 'pistil' that has been present and growing for 2 years. These stamen will act as a hive-mind. There will be no leader, no central controller. The stamen will peer-to-peer coordinate their display! Imagine walking through an autonomous bamboo forest of animated LEDs!
An additional interactive 'fertilizer' element will be present - an orb, that when carried through the forest of stamen, will cause a reaction.
This funding will enable the creation of these 30 LED-spire stamen, and a $200 donation will purchase one LED spire stamen as a take home item, and give $50 to the Gardens at Lake Merritt! My Goal is to raise $6000 dollars to pay for the art project, donate $1500 to The Gardens at Lake Merritt, and give away 30 of these LED spires to the donors!!

Risks and challenges
There is zero risk to take home of this project. I've been built these LED spires before and there comprised the earlier renditions of Flos Aliena. The art risk is the interacting hive-mind behavior of the overall project - and I'm unsure of what the visual result will be - but the take home version gets a proven solo controller so it can give a decent display all by itself!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
