It all started with a month-long challenge in 2014 -- for every day in October, I would draw a single robot. The robots provided a great way to explore very human concerns about empathy, body positivity, and finding one's place in the world. Of course, I felt called to the challenge again in 2015.
Interest took off, and the first two collections of my illustrations were turned into books.
This October, I will be once again taking on the task of Robot Month, but with a little something extra. I am offering this calendar and an enamel pin to help us all celebrate robots, empathy, whimsy, and wonder for all of 2017.
Want more whimsy and robots? Of course you do! I have created this 1.5" soft enamel pin design to wear with you wherever you go. A pink robot riding a narwhal is the essence of joy and adventure.
These pins have already been ordered and are HERE. They are ready to go when the Kickstarter funds fully, and they are glorious.
As stretch goals, I am offering two additional pin designs.
First, a Robot Y'ALL. The Y'all is going to be in a stunning gold glitter. See how sparkly and wonderful that narwhal is? Y'ALL can be that, too. That has reached funding goal, so the Robot Y'ALL will be an option at the end of the campaign!!!
Second Stretch Goal! $1200
If we reach $900, I will get one of the designs made. If we reach $1200, I will get both made. The poll to decide which pin will get made if only one stretch goal is met is here. Please vote for the pin you'd like to see most. When I send out backer surveys, you will be able to choose the pin(s) you want from the ones that have been unlocked so far.
The artwork for both pins has already been approved by the manufacturer and is ready to go. The narwhal pins are a great indication of how well these pins can turn out.
This is a standard sized, staple-bound wall calendar. Opened, it is 11x17". It contains twelve full-color illustrations of robots for each month and an upgraded, slightly sturdier cover. The calendar portion has plenty of room for writing in events as you see fit. For each month, the robots shown represent a sense of optimism, peace, or, in some cases, just hanging in there.
My hope is that this colorful calendar will bring a brightness into your year. I have already received a physical proof copy of the calendar, and it looks great. All I need is enough funding to put in a proper order.
Let's make 2017 a year filled with robots and joy. And ....
Risks and challenges
I already have a proof of the calendar, so as soon as Kickstarter releases the funds to me, I will be able to order. This printer requires about a week turnaround time to print, which should have the calendars to me by the end of November, making it simple for me to get them to backers by mid-December. Of course, delays from the printer are possible, but I have worked with them before and they have always been reliable.
The artwork for the pin has already been approved by the manufacturer and the finished pins should arrive by the end of November as well. I have not worked with this manufacturer before, but they seem to be a dependable company, and I believe they will do the work in the time they estimated.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
