Hello, my name is Alejandro Lacreu. I am an architect, sculptor and inventor from Argentina, now making my home in New York City. I would like to introduce you to my latest invention: Flipphandle.
It’s the simplest idea in the world. Flipphandle allows you to turn and lock your handlebars 90° at the push of a button. It fits threaded and threadless steerer tubes.
Suddenly, your bike takes up far less space in your hallway, on a bike rack, in your garage, on a train, or wherever you keep your bike when not in use. With its slimmer profile, Flipphandle works better in narrow spaces (like your hallway) and makes it easier for you to walk with your bike in crowded places like city streets and subway stations (plus escalators and elevators). Its simple, quick action makes Flipphandle convenient for bicycle commuters.

The Story So FarI invented Flipphandle in 2007. In 2008, Flipphandle won the Silver Medal at the 36th Salon Des Invention in Geneva. In 2009, we made 50 samples and rigorously tested them during 2010 and 2011. In 2010, Flipphandle was granted a patent.
The PlanThe great news is that testing has been successful and Flipphandle is now ready for production. It has taken a lot of work to engineer all the parts into their optimum form. Up until this point, we have been footing the bill on design, prototypes and patents and now we have come to the place where we need your help.
In order to bring Flipphandle to the world and make it cost effective, we need to make a pilot production run of 1,000 units. The money you donate will go to manufacturing this very first run of Flipphandles – and one or more of these can be yours! Your donations will go toward tooling for machined metal parts and assembly, production-quality molds for plastic parts, materials, labor, packaging, insurance, import fees, shipping and delivery to you, our Kickstarter investors. Today lots of fellow cyclists keep begging me for a Flipphandle and now we can make this possible. I hope you become one of Flipphandle’s enthusiastic fans in order to reach this goal.

About the Unit
Flipphandle is designed to be especially robust as it sits at the critical juncture of the steerer tube and the handlebars. Every detail has been designed, tested and refined for maximum performance. The core of the mechanism is a high strength carbon steel tube, precisely machined to .01mm tolerance. At the top of the unit is the spinning mechanism. The spinning tube is made of specialized reinforced plastic, chosen for its rigidity, durability, and its very low coefficient of friction. This rotates around the inner steel tube, providing an ultra-smooth and effortless motion when changing handlebar positions. A spring-driven conical cam method creates a rock-solid locking-unlocking mechanism. At the bottom of the unit, an Allen bolt/wedge nut connector guarantees the proper anchoring to the steerer tube, making this overall a precision-crafted, sturdy and long-lasting device.
