Flame effects are hard to see during the day - and in the bright desert sun, sometimes fire is totally invisible. At night the flames look amazing but the sculptures themselves are hidden in the darkness. In order to make for the exciting shows we put on, Flaming Lotus Girls need wash lighting.
Up until now we have rented our wash lighting, or uplighting, equipment for each event. If we are able to meet our 30K goal, we will have enough money after fulfillment costs to also purchase our own LED lighting array - saving us and our backers thousands over the coming years!
Join us in reaching this goal and we'll turn up our environmental friendliness and dollar efficiency by purchasing top of the line rechargeable LED wash lighting - so we can go anywhere, do anything, and leave no trace!
We've also added some sweet, new, one of a kind gifts to our backer rewards - check them out!!
Read More About Pulse:
The Flaming Lotus Girls are back in the shop! For 2016 we will be returning to Black Rock City with our latest creation: Pulse.
Taking inspiration from Leonardo Da Vinci’s anatomy sketches, Pulse is a 12’ tall sculptural interpretation of the human heart with blood of fire and veins of steel! The steel structure is formed by the intricate vasculature and predominant veins and arteries of the heart. Emanating from within the heart is a dazzling demonstration of heat, light, and sound that, using biosensors, synchronizes with the participant’s own heartbeat. Pulse is about passion, persistence, life, and connectivity. Like Black Rock City, our birthplace, Pulse is a demonstration of what is possible when hearts are in sync!
The Flaming Lotus Girls have had an incredible year! We were invited to show Merope II at Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History. Serpent Mother made an epic return to Burning Man for her 10th Anniversary. We wowed with the Serpent Egg at Winter Blast. Our very own Crystin, Denise, and Bethany gave a TEDx talk on "How Big Art is Made In A Do-Ocracy." We were featured in the book The Art and Science of Working With Propane. And we couldn’t have done it without our amazing family of backers!
Want to be part of making Pulse a reality? Pulse is an independent art project, with no direct funding. The Flaming Lotus Girls is a volunteer-based organization solely supported by the efforts and resources of our members and by kick-ass Kickstarter backers, like yourself. While it already has a lot of traction and construction is well underway, Pulse and projects like it have a lot of operational costs: consumables, materials, transportation, insurance, to name just a few. Along with our Kickstarter campaign, we fundraise by selling merchandise, collecting voluntary dues, and showing our sculptures at events. We have already raised $10k of Pulse’s total projected budget and we only need to generate $15k with this campaign to complete construction and transport the piece to its debut showing at Burning Man 2016.
Join our campaign. In addition to being a crucial member of the industrial arts community you will receive the exclusive, heart-thumping perks listed and our unquenchable love!
Once you donate be sure to share Pulse with your friends!
Stretch Goal #1: $20,000 - Pulse Pods
For an additional $5,000 we will be able to enhance Pulse with an immersive sensory experience. We have designed a pair of satellite structures - Pulse Pods - which allow space for people to gather, sheltered from the sun by day and the wind by night. Interactivity allows participants to fill each pod chamber with the sound and vibration of their own heartbeats. At night, this is complemented by modulated LED effects.
Risks and challenges
Flaming Lotus Girls never disappoint. We have been building our fiery metal sculptures and sharing them with the world for over 10 years. Rest assured, the group is well versed in the process of building and presenting Big Art.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
