About this project
Update: Stretch Goal: $40,000 + PC & Android Support!
At 40k we will put a professional quartet in a recording studio and engineer and edit the audio with a professional sound designer. A combination of ambience, sound effects and simple thematic music is half of what makes a great animated experience.
The Story of Flewn follows an old whale crossing a continent on stilts made of driftwood in search of a new ocean for himself and the sea creatures he carries on his back. As he grows a beard and a weary heart he meets a frog on a unicycopter and a rabbit with wings. Together the three characters must use their creativity and courage to find a new ocean and confront the reason their world is falling apart around them.
Why tell a story interactively? The Story of Flewn combines interactive game mechanics with cinematic storytelling set in a richly illustrated world. Traditionally a reader would turn pages of a book or sit passively watching a film to discover a story. In Flewn the player must keep the main characters (Frog and Rabbit) well fed and flying across beautifully illustrated landscapes in order to progress the story. This interactivity allows the user to feel a closer connection to the needs, ambitions and reactions of the main character. By adding ambient sound and music the story takes on an immersive environment as the story unfolds. The audience experiences the world and feels a greater sense of discovery and fulfillment.
The primary goal is to finish the interactive Story of Flewn into the equivalent length of reading a classic children’s book. (Think “James and the Giant Peach” as an immersive, animated book with sound and music) Currently Flewn is a work in progress. All the technical and creative barriers have been overcome. The challenge now is to enter into full production to add enough content to complete a great story experience.

Your support makes this project possible. Lets make this happen! I want you to be a part of the process. If you want to help brainstorm, provide feedback, describe your thoughts and test the experience I am open to all ideas and will carefully consider each suggestion.
sooo....how am I going to deliver such an ambitious goal?
Check out my portfolio. www.gabrielsmetzer.com I have worked on many high profile projects for clients like NASA, Intel, Yahoo, Adobe and many others in both art and technical director roles and am bringing that experience and hard work to this project. I love interactive animation for its ability to explore the relationships between Music and Sound, Story, Visual Art and Motion.

An example of a finished print. There will be a print of each character upon completion of the story.
yes I will now be supporting PC.
I will be supporting the NookColor and KindleFire as they are popular devices and Flewn will look nice on their tablet screens. Many other Android devices will be supported. However some may be letter-boxed. (black bars on top and bottom)
I do all my character creation, design and animation with a software called Cinema4D made by Maxon. It is a great tool and a supportive company. I use photoshop to create prints and graphics.
Additional prints and t-shirts will be made available online after the backers have been rewarded theirs. Please include an additional $10 for international shipping. Thank You.
This story will be fun for all ages and appropriate for about 5 and up. However there will be some scary parts but not more than say “Where the Wild Things Are” This age range may shift on the final project.
