"Before the car of doom began its dismal / voyage, the hospital's head psychiatrist / knocked on a window of the car, "Joe, be / sure to take your medicine," said he who / had declared me well."
-from Dismal Voyage, written by American murderer Joseph Kallinger ca. 1989
Dismal Voyage is a collaborative art zine themed around the darker and more mysterious aspects of our world. This first issue centers on famous (and not so famous) murders. Projected themes for future issues include: Urban Legends, Childhood Fears, Murder Houses, and Unexplained Phenomena, to name a few.
Murder is an uncomfortable subject. It's dark, it's upsetting, and it's found in every corner of the world. It can also be a fascinating topic to explore artistically. The artists for this issue chose subjects that were particularly important to them. Whether stemming from the depravity of the case, identification with the victim(s), or something that occurred near a hometown, each image represents something that haunts the artist's mind.
All money raised from this campaign will go to: printing and assembly, packaging and shipping, reward production, and Kickstarter fees and taxes.
