What would the radio sound like if Elvis Presley had never existed?
Flashback To Never is an alternate history podcast told through 1962 radio. All the songs are original, written and recorded in the styles of the early '60s. DJs, songs, and commercials tell the story of a world not so different than our own...
We've been working for the last year and a half to get Season 1 ready for launch. We've worked with more than fifty musicians, and with your help, we can keep working with the amazing talent Bloomington and the world has to offer! This money will go towards finishing the songs as well as making sure we have professional editors piecing the show together so it sounds top-notch!
Risks and challenges
Our two biggest barriers are time and talent.
We've created 25+ artists, which means we need 25+ different singers. That doesn't include the vocal talent for the dialogue in each episode. All in all, we will work with more than 100 performers. That is no easy feat when you think about auditioning, scheduling, and recording. Luckily, Bloomington is a great place where musicians work together as friends and a community. We get recommendations when working with one artist, which leads us to other great and talented people who we are eager to add to our expanding project!
Time is our other big hurdle. There's only so many hours in the day. Originally, we planned on releasing episodes starting in July of 2018, but we quickly realized just how unrealistic that was. By moving our premiere date back, we've had the time to truly develop a great show. As hard as it is to outsource parts of the project, we know that editing the show together would cost us far too much time, so we'll be hiring an audio engineer to edit the episodes together. The Flashback team is also working hard to divvy up tasks, utilizing our strengths to best use those short 24 hours each day. We know our limitations, but we've also given ourselves the time to finish what we've started. We set achievable deadlines and hold each other accountable. Each member of the team brings creative experience to the table, and we all understand taking something from idea to finished product. For example, we are frontloading completed episodes before 2019 in case anything comes up that we haven't planned for.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
