About this project
Fizzly is a tiny wearable smart tracker that just adds superpowers to your iPhone, iPads or Android devices allowing them to sense what happens in the real world. It's just so easy to use: wear Fizzly or stick it to any object you like and open the Fizzly dedicated App. From now on, every object can become interactive and everything can be a game.
Stick it to your Skateboard, open the Fizzly Skate app and start recording your tricks in real time. Not only you'll get points while performing your best moves, but you'll be also able to share them with your friends, and challenge them to do better. Or, stick it to your door and customize what happens when it will be opened. Do you want to notify on twitter? Or receive an alert on your Phone? Or want your Hue Light to turn on? With Fizzly this will come true in seconds, thanks to the Macro App.
These are just some of the few great App we've started developing with Fizzly. You can expect more to come in the future, also with your suggestions! Plus, we're in touch with the most brilliant developers out there, to bring Fizzly support to your favourite exsisting apps.
Fizzly can also be expanded with a set of dedicated accessories, that will greatly enhance its smart capabilities in a plug & play fashion. These accessories will add for example a temperature sensor, a relay, gps and so on. It will be so straightforwarding for hardware manufacturers to add their custom accessories to Fizzly, increasing the connectivity capabilities of their products.

Fizzly’s wireless communication is based on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) smart technology, the newest standard for extremely power-efficient wireless communication.
Once powered-on and paired with a smartphone or a tablet, Fizzly is designed to stream live data from its sensors to all devices it is paired with or to save them for later transfer. A very accurate embedded three axis accelerometer precisely tracks movements, combined with a three-axis magnetometer and gyro.
Once Fizzly detects an action, it will immediately communicate it to the paired device, triggering a specific event depending on the chosen app and on the tracked movements. That could trigger sounds, notifications, lights or whatever your imagination suggests.
Fizzly is designed to be paired with every device compatible with Bluetooth 4.0: mobile phones, tablets or PCs. This means that Fizzly can become the physical controller of a wide range of smart appliances, services and social networks already on the market, it's up to you to choose what to do with it. We have successfully tested Fizzly with some of them, obtaining for example a motion-triggered HUE Light® interaction, and you can expect a growing range of compatible gizmos in the future, thanks to the Open Fizzly APIs.
Fizzly itself can deliver feedback furthermore, thanks to its powerful RGB LED and buzzer.
Plus, a capacitive touch button will also let you further customize your interactive experience (e.g. tracking movements only when the button is pressed).
There's no reason to worry about battery life: Fizzly's onboard rechargeable battery can last up to 1 year, depending on your usage. All you'll need to get it going again is just a common micro USB mobile phone charger.
More Fizzly... more Fun! Several Fizzly can be paired with the same device to create even more immersive, social and involving experiences, like your own party games or an entire Bluetooth-powered smart home.
There are accessories to track sport activities, gestures, lost items and so on. We didn't want to just design yet another accessory. We worked starting from this base to open up the possibilities: with Fizzly Apps movements are associated to an action or event, connecting your real world to Internet and vice versa. This way the possibilities are endless. Fizzly can become your physical controller of smart appliances, Internet services, social networks or a new generation of videogames yet to come. Step into your new gamified and smart life.
At launch Fizzly will feature a set of dedicated apps available for free both on the Play Store and App Store. These apps will allow you to get started in no time and experience a whole new world of interaction made possible by Fizzly in a user-friendly way.
We built Fizzly to give you a powerful magic wand to create a new horizon of possibilities. Its advanced sensors track motions so accurately you will be stunned. Your experience will be smooth, straightforward and limitless.

This is the app through which you can manage your Fizzly, from the first configuration of a newly paired Fizzly to firmware updates.
Choose your trigger action on your smart device, select which event will be triggered, then enjoy. Not only you will have default actions, but you will be able to customize them. Overall, thanks to IFTTT, also other Internet services, apps and Internet-of-Things appliances are involved: shake Fizzly to turn off your Philips Hue or swipe it to send a tweet to a friend.
It's up to you: challenge your imagination! For example, use this app to add sounds and interactions to the bedtime story you're improvising for your daughter, change slides of your presentation or shuffle your music. We invented Fizzly to make on-the-fly creativity easy: every day you can find new ways to use it, ways we haven't even imagined!
How many times can you juggle a ball? Find it out with this app, beat your records, learn new moves and play against your friends online. Challenge yourself even more with a 2-Fizzly setup!
None of your tricks will be overlooked. Fizzly will track them with a score you can share with your friends. Who will be the best one?
You can set up the color of your Fizzly LED to change with the notification you receive!
For example Fizzly-LED can become pale blue when you are mentioned on Twitter, yellow when you receive a Snap or blue when you receive a message on Facebook. You can associate each notification with the color you prefer or choose a default color or even a set of colors.
Put Fizzly on your child's shoes, then decide which superhero or imaginary character you want to be. A Pirate? A Princess? A Ninja? A Robot?
For every step, your smart device paired with Fizzly will respond with whatever sounds you choose! Double the Fizzly, double the magic! And with four Fizzly you could even add sounds to your arms!!
P.S.: at the moment we are working on a specific set of characters that will available at launch, but it would great to make something that perfectly fits you, so please, tell us what you want, don't be shy!
CATCH THE COLOR
Just start the app on you smart device and it will show you a color. Then the Fizzly LED will change continuously in a fast sequence. Grab it whenever the color is the one shown on your smart device. Who will have the best reflexes? Challenge yourself even more by adding more Fizzly.
LOST & FOUND
Are you always losing things? Put Fizzly on your objects, car keys, for example, and you won't forget anything, anymore. Whenever you go out of range you'll receive an alert on your device.
Fizzly comes in four stylish colors: black, green, light blue & pink.
The clip mount, made of smooth, rubberized plastic, gives Fizzly a nice feel and a great grip. Thanks to the clip on its back you can easily attach it anywhere: clothes, shoes, bags, skates, bikes and more. The clip mount also protects your Fizzly from dust and prevents damage caused by severe impacts.
Want a keyring? Needless to say, Fizzly is the best you can have thanks to its lost-and-found capability!

Fizzly is meant to be open to improvement from the community as it is designed to let third-party developers extend its functionality, both through software with open APIs, and hardware, thanks the I2C communication protocol over microUSB. With designers and developers, more and more new apps and extensions will be available to interact with Fizzly in the future!
Fizzly uses the new Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy standard. BLE reduces exponentially the power consumption, decreases latency and total time to send data (6ms VS 100 ms), and expands your personal network capabilities.
Fizzly implements new customized BLE services (accelerometer, magnetometer, gyroscope, RGB LED, buzzer) to allow sensor reading and to control its LED lights. It is also possible to control these services through ad hoc characteristics especially created for Fizzly. To easily access Fizzly features we will develop iOS and Android APIs, ready to be imported in Xcode or in your favorite Android Development Environment.
Software and APIs
We’ll provide APIs to easily start Fizzly app deployment on iOS and Android operative systems. You can import simple projects in your development environment to manage all Fizzly features and services.
We will provide application source code to explore Fizzly’s basic functions, for example: show Fizzly BLE characteristics, configuration parameters , graph data values to let you easily understand Fizzly features and workflow.
With this sample code you can connect one or more Fizzly, enable sensors, set sensors options (range, precision, datarate), enable or disable notifications, set data frequency, control RGB LED or buzzer.
We provide a server service to manage Fizzly connection to your smartphone app. It handles Fizzly out-of-range events, auto reconnections, sharing data with multiple apps.
CocoaPods / Maven
The libraries will be available with a full documentation through CocoaPods for iOS, and in the Maven repository for Android Studio.
Simple Gesture Recognizer Example
We will also provide a simple example of gesture recognizer engine. It will be able to detect simple movements. It allows you to understand recognition principles and practice with them.
Third party developers will be able to develop hardware accessories which will communicate with Fizzly through I2C. We are already working on three accessories that will expand the capabilities of Fizzly and the ways to interact with it.
Below you can see some of the milestones planned for our prototyping process, from the beginning to the actual working prototype.
Fizzly is the outcome of a multidisciplinary team driven by passion, creativity and desire to break new grounds. Our expertise ranges from Interaction Design to Computer Science, with a particular focus on embedded technology and physical computing. Last year we launched UDOO here on Kickstarter, a one-of-a-kind Single Board Computer, arising such a great success we are still touched.
We would like to express our very great appreciation to Liam Bannon, Don Norman and Ali Momeni who helped us in defining the vision and mission of Fizzly. Theirs critics, suggestions and encouragements have been stimulating and precious. We really should hire them. Guess, they're expensive tough.
Risks and challenges
This is not our first Kickstarter Campaign. In 2013 we successfully launched UDOO on Kickstarter and we delivered the product on time.
We are technology experts. Our team is multidisciplinary: Interaction Designer, Electronics experts, Software Developers...
Fizzly is an important challenge for us. We would like to create something different from other sensor tags, where the user experience is fundamental. For this reason we need your suggestions during the campaign to create truly fun, useful, and user-friendly apps. The software and the solutions other people will produce will be key to the success of Fizzly.
BLE and motion sensors are a new technology with a lot of potential. We’ve been working diligently for the last year to better understand its capabilities. Our challenge is to explore the best way to utilize this technology, developing software that would enable new ways to interact with the objects around us in everyday situations.
