About

It's the 1800s and aliens have landed in the Wild West, interrupting settlers on their way to Oregon. The aliens want genuine human artifacts and willingly trade dangerous technology for common household goods. A curious tribe of Native Americans have camped near the town and joined in the trading as aliens and humans begin tinkering with each other’s gadgets–creating amusing contraptions and spectacular failures.

Area 1851 is an exciting new tabletop game in which players roll dice, tinker with your gadget cards, and deal with random events while trying to prove that they are the best tinkerer in town.

You can read the current draft of the rulebook right here

Advanced Prototype of Area 1851, Subject to Tinkering

"...This is going to be a very, very good euro style game with a really cool theme and some humor thrown on top of that..." - Tom Vasel, The Dice Tower

"... I really like the game and am looking forward to its release. I have often contemplated on trying to get a hold of a prototype simply because I can't wait to play more of the game..." - agelaus, boardgamegeek.com

"...Area 1851 is a unique mix of familiar mechanics, but I can’t say the whole package leads me to say 'well its like X'..." - Myndskrew, boardgamegeek.com

Stay tuned for more reviews and previews as they come.

Who wouldn't want to play a game set in a wild west era with aliens, where you fabricate wacky gadgets? It sounds so silly and fun, and you know what? It is!

The Springboard Seal of Quality is your assurance that a new game project is worth your time and attention. All titles approved for Springboard campaigns are vetted by the game professionals at Game Salute. We've got a few in mind, but we're not going to pull the trigger yet - we need to focus on hitting our initial goal. Once we start making progress, we'll update with more info on the stretch goals just over the horizon.

We are gamers just like you. We love games that as you play them, the layers of strategy start to reveal themselves providing a deep, rich meta game as well as having a significant replay value. We've been keeping that in mind during the last year and a half as Area 1851 has been going through various rounds of development.

Risks and challenges

Area 1851 has been designed and playtested and could be printed now. Any challenges related to delivering the game to you should be restricted to production and delivery.

On the production and delivery front, the potential risks are fairly minimal since we're working with established companies (Panda Game Manufacturing and Game Salute).

Once the campaign is successfully funded, Sara will start back up on the art. The risk involved here is the time requirements to get 50+ pieces of art created and approved. While we don't expect this to take more than two months, miscommunications, illness or unforeseen circumstances could always delay this step.

Once all of the art is complete, the game will be ready to go to the manufacturer, and there aren't many potential points of failure from a production standpoint. There is always the possibility that the manufacturer's schedule might become full by the time this campaign is complete, which can result in delaying the delivery of the games.

As always, if you have any other questions or concerns about this game, please contact us and we'll do our best to address them.
