We need to note that the PCB will have changes after all. A big thanks to gekkio from the gbdev discord for bringing one technical issue with the PCB to our attention. Our manufacturer will fix it.
@Wouter Beugelsdijk Understood! Thanks for making us aware of it, we will keep it in mind for the future!
@First Press Games Creator I have no problems changing the batteries every 20y (especially if it’s that easy to do). No worries. Just thought it could be a small improvement and wanted you be aware of the possibility before mass production started.
@Wouter Beugelsdijk: Thanks for this insight. We could confirm this, however the tech behind that is fairly new. To get our manufacturer to build it into his PCBs would require additional time, a lot of upcoming sampling and testing and most likely also notably higher production costs. Just for the sake of not needing to change the batteries every 10-20 years. We apologize for not meeting this expectation, but that's unfortunately not really bearable at this point. :(
@First Press Games Creator people in the r/Gameboy discord are stating there’re reliable solutions for flash saving. Maybe you should join if you’re interested.
@Wouter Beugelsdijk: Thanks for asking! There is currently no reliable way to make flash saving on GB/GBC work. Some Chinese reproductions attempted this and the results were not very stable, saves often get corrupted or completely wiped. This is why we will stick with a PCB that utilizes the classic battery saving. Just like every other release with save feature back in the days. It's a lot easier to change the batteries on our PCBs though.
Why are you still using a battery on the PCB?
