"The design principal that the laser-cut terrain is based on is to be able to build a cityscape out of interlocking 12" square tiles that consists of: two-lane roads; sidewalks along all roads; city blocks ranging from 6"-48" in 6" increments; and have noticeable depth without interfering with modularity or small storage requirements or having excessive weight.

All of the terrain that was designed for this project will be supplied as a kit, unassembled and unpainted.

Modular Building Building Modules (MBBM)
- This name is brought to you by the minister of redundancy from his office, the ministry of redundancy.
- 6" x 6" (152mm) or 6" x 12" (152mm x 304mm) octagonal footprint.
- 3" (76mm) tall, per level.
- Outpost and Deco styles available with Gothic stretch goal now unlocked.
- Octagonally indexing (can be stacked with levels facing any of eight ways)
- Peg-in-hole interconnection between levels assures correct alignment every time and allows levels to be separated without sticking together.
- Designed to build towers.
- Can be stacked as high as you want; the flat base will remain stable as long as the surface it is on is flat and level.
- High-precision detail engraved on all visible surfaces, even inside, with multi-layer lamination for added visual depth.
- Central GravElevator (not a real anti-gravity engine) for moving between levels or the option for a spiral staircase.
- Doors (removable)
- Windows (at least three sizes!)

Also, some of these pictures contain images of 28mm models designed and produced by a few other companies. The models are being shown for scale purposes and the companies that own their copyrights are not associated with FireBucket Games LLC.
All of those sidewalk grates look cool, but they also serve in important purpose: during assembly, they make sure the sidewalks are properly positioned, insuring straight roads and clean-fitting tiles.
Each of the pledge levels contains its own set of rewards and the levels are not cumulative. There are, however, several reward levels that will gain additional rewards as we reach our stretch goals. Some of the pledges offer you the ability to choose the specific style of reward; we will ask for this information as part of the survey at the conclusion of this project.

In order to keep the starting cost of the T5 project down, we at FBG decided to only offer a few parts of the entire project at the start. We are offering an entire city worth of terrain in Outpost and Deco styles with the opening project, but this means that we have lots of other designs waiting to be unlocked by your enthusiasm (and money). Since there is so much potential here, our stretch goals will be starting at a fairly low level and occurring frequently.
We also believe that there is no sense in making these secret to form suspense and anticipation. Instead, we're showing all the current goals now, so that you will have an idea of what the future holds and how far you are willing to go to help us build this great city.
::UNLOCKED:: $7,000: More Containers. Container222 (2" x 2" x 2") and Container622 (6" x 2" x 2") will be available for manufacture. There will be a new pledge level that just includes an assortment of containers and these new containers will be unlocked as add-ons. One (1) additional free Container422 will be included with any pledge over $50 that already includes a container of any size (either as a pledge, or as an add-on).
::UNLOCKED:: $8,000: Windows for everything. At this level, FireBucket Games will be able to add acrylic sheets to our inventory of available materials: unlock window pane upgrade for MBBM sets and windowed version of all three sizes of Shipping Container. *Window panes will be compatible with MBBM Outpost and MBBM Deco, but not MBBM Gothic. There will be a new pledge level that offers a windowed assortment of containers and these new options will be unlocked in the list of add-ons.
::UNLOCKED:: $9,000: Planters. Green space just makes the city nicer. With these planters (plants sold separately) unlocked, you will be able to break the monotony of the concrete jungle with a little bit of actual jungle (actually forest). After all, your 28mm people will need something to hide behind and how many real modern cities have fortifications built into them? One (1) additional free triangular planter will be included with each MBBM set already in your pledge and one (1) additional free square planter will be included with each T5 set of 9 or more tiles already in your pledge.
::UNLOCKED:: $10,000: Scatter Peripherals. A set of small objects that could be rooftop machines, alley clutter, or general issue street clutter. Not only of the style shown above, but also as new design items that include the 1mm heavy card that the planters are made of.
A set of Scatter Peripherals includes (4) Rooftop Machines and (4) Mounting Plates. ((2) of each shown above.)
::UNLOCKED:: $11,000: The ARC Pylon. ARC Pylon requires acrylic rod*; not hard to get, but it takes more time and money that only this much funding can afford. The design includes holes for installing 5mm LEDs under each of the acrylic rods, but the lighting kit must be purchased separately. This will unlock a new pledge level that will include one (1) ARC Pylon; ARC Pylon will be available as an add-on to any pledge; also, one (1) additional free ARC Pylon will be included with any pledge over $70 that already includes an ARC Pylon. *Remember to specify what color rods you want in your pylon (Red, Blue, or Florescent Green).
::UNLOCKED:: $12,000: Parking Lot tile (Special Tile 1). Available in a left and right version, this will give your 28mm people a place to park their 28mm cars or, you know, 28mm tanks. There is a right turn (shown in pictures) and a left turn version available that can be specified during the survey after the project. One (1) Special Tile of your choice will be included with each T5 set of 16 or more tiles already in your pledge and the add-on for this tile will become available.
::UNLOCKED:: $13,000: Bus Stop tile (Special Tile 2). What's that? Your 28mm people do not have cars? At this stretch level, they will be able to take the 28mm bus. One (1) more Special Tile of your choice will be included with each T5 set of 16 or more tiles already in your pledge and the add-on for this tile will become available.
::UNLOCKED:: $14,000: Town Square tile (Special Tile 3). Here's a chance to make your new city look really fancy while giving your 28mm people a place to center their 28mm community. One (1) more Special Tile of your choice will be included with each T5 set of 16 or more tiles already in your pledge and the add-on for this tile will become available.
There are a total of (3) free Special Tile slots that have been unlocked, meaning that you will be able to choose (3) free tiles for every T5 set of 16 or more that you have pledged.
::UNLOCKED:: $15,000: Higher detail, through more layers. A special upgrade for the MBBM sets. By replacing one High Density Fiberboard (HDF) layer with three layers of 1mm heavy chip board we are able to dramatically improve the level of detail on the outside of the buildings. Once this funding level is reached, we will rework all designs for MBBM walls to utilize this greater detail. (This looks amazing, but adds manufacturing time).
::UNLOCKED:: $17,000: MBBM Peripherals. The MBBM is a great set, but it needs a bit more; it needs things like billboards, bridges that can cross the road. There will be a different set of peripherals for each of the design styles. They will be unlocked as add-ons and one (1) additional free peripheral set will be included with any pledge that already includes at least one MBBM set.
::UNLOCKED:: $19,000: Special Roof: ARC Pylon. This is a roof, sure, but not just any roof; it is built from a larger version of the ARC Pylon. More acrylic rods! More Pylons! More arcing! Intended to be used as a replacement for a regular MBBM66 roof, but also able to be used as a stand-along terrain piece. This also includes 5mm LED mounting holes, but does not include a lighting kit. Will be available as an add-on.
::UNLOCKED:: $20,000: MBBM style: Gothic. It may be the only one in its class, a detailed Gothic style modular building made of laser-cut HDF. Despite the differences in style, Gothic is fully interchangeable and stackable with Outpost and Deco. This will add a pledge option and add-ons for Gothic buildings.
::UNLOCKED:: $22,000: MBBM size: 12"x12". The MBBM1212 is big (one square foot big) and it has just as much detail as the smaller buildings; it therefore is only able to be made by the largest, fastest laser. There will be a version made for each of the three existing styles. They will be unlocked as add-ons or as an optional substitution for any MBBM set that your pledge already includes.
::UNLOCKED:: $24,000: Special Roof: Diagonal MBBM612. This is an upgrade for the MBBM1212 that lets you put a MBBM612 diagonally on top of it. One (1) will be added to each MBBM1212 that is in your pledge, but they can be an add-on as well once this goal unlocks.
::UNLOCKED:: $30,000: Special Roof: Shingles. Intended to be used as a replacement for Gothic MBBM66 roof (unlocks at $20,000 due to the number of cuts required), but can also be used with Outpost and Deco. This uses the 1mm chip board for shingles on a HDF frame. The shingles are cut in rows to gain the effect of separation while maintaining ease of construction. Will be available as an add-on.
$50,000: Raised City. This brings the ground level of the T5 city up 3". It will allow for things like drainage trenches, basements, and terraced cities. All of the tile styles from the existing set will be able to sit directly on this new riser; even optional conversion tiles will be available for transitioning from the regular level tiles to the raised ones.
$70,000: Rolling Hills. By cutting along the contour lines of a topographical map, and laminating the layers together, we will give you the ability to have low rolling hills and valleys without as much worry of models tipping over. These tiles will interconnect with each other in the same way the city tiles do and they will also be able to connect to the city tiles.

What do we plan to do with the money? Why do we have the stretch goals set up the way we do?
Ultimately, we get a laser cutter and international recognition as a team who knows how to use it.
This project is about making cool terrain to enhance the gaming tables of the world, but we will be using most of the money to purchase the tools that we need to do all of the manufacturing in house. After we've fulfilled our obligations for your rewards, we will still have the tools to use on future projects.
Here's how it breaks down:
Once the initial funding is secure, the first $4,500 will get us the most basic 45 Watt laser with a cutting bed large enough to do what we need; about $1,000 will go to materials; the remaining $500 should cover peripheral devices and building modification needed to use the cutter properly. As funding increases above this, nearly all the money will go into reward fulfillment until we get to $10k.
At $10,000 we hit our first price break. This would give us enough resources to make a down payment on a much larger, more powerful, more precise laser. At this level, we decide if we're going to invest in a better tool and be able to make more things faster and with a higher degree of accuracy, or if we're going to get a second basic tool and just increase potential output. At this point, you will have access to everything up to Deco style rewards.
By $20,000, we'll definitely need the larger machine. The volume of rewards that this entails means we need to cut as many parts as fast as we can. We'll still be making a down payment on the tool, but we'll be paying for half of it in addition to sourcing the materials that we'll need to cut and fitting the space around the tool. At this point, all three MBBM styles and most accessories will be unlocked.
If we get as high as $35,000 (or higher) we will be buying the larger machine outright. No question as to whether or not we need it; no down payments or leases. This is the best outcome for everyone. We get the best tool we can, you get the most precisely cut HDF that you'll see on the market. At this point, we'll have come up with new stretch goals to delight the lot of you.
Any funding that goes above that will be put into the manufacturing process because, even at $35k, that is many long days of loading a laser.
What is it that sets FBG's T5 apart from its competitors? Why is MBBM different than the other buildings on the market? With the current level of market saturation, what makes you think there needs to be another laser cut HDF terrain option?
Diversity. Not only do we think that our designs are aesthetically pleasing, we believe that the gaming community around the world needs to have a greater choice of what a city looks like.
It is true that there are many other companies out there making laser cut buildings but, of them, there are only a few who can match the quality of mechanical and aesthetic design that we demonstrate with this project.
It is not just buildings, not just an outpost, not small, not isolated.
We offer a cityscape; roads, sidewalks, paved areas. These are not things that you can get with a grass mat, painted sand, or bare table. Sure, there are a couple of other companies with options for rigid 3D gaming boards, but how many of them are flat on every surface so that you can place your buildings and models anywhere? How many depict a city that is not in ruin? How many depict a city at all? How many other gaming boards are made of sustainably harvested materials that are biodegradable if you ever need to dispose of them? All of these things are components of what FireBucket Games is offering to you with this, the T5: Tile City project. All of these are reasons why you should care.
A Note on Scale
(Wait, I thought this was supposed to be fun. Why all the math?)
T5 is designed to accurately reflect the true size of real-word objects in a 28mm miniatures game setting, but since that is not technically a scale we must first define our assumptions and recognize that these assumptions have been adjusted to simplify numbers used in design; I like to use whole numbers. (Stand back, I'm an American and therefore think in terms of inches and feet.)
- First assumption: a 28mm regular infantry model without a base in many games and armies is about 1.2" (30mm) tall. If that model represents a person that is 6' (1.8m) tall, then it is accurate to assume that 1" (25.4mm) on the table is equivalent to 5' (1.5m) in reality. This establishes that we are using a scale that ranges from 1:56 to 1:60 depending on how tall the "standard human" really is. This assumption contains the additional assumption that human height will follow the current global trend of gradual increase.
- Second assumption: in the United States a standard road lane ranges from 8'-15' (2.4m-4.5m) in width; the standard road lane in most of the rest of the world is 7'-12' (2.1m-3.6m) wide. This leads to an international average lane width of 10'-12' (3m-3.6m).
- Third assumption: a many story building is 15' (4.5m) from the floor of one level to the floor of the next level. 10' of that is usable space, the other 5' is structural and mechanical.
With those assumptions defining my scale, I can say that a sidewalk is 1" wide, a road lane is 2" wide, a two lane road is 4" wide, and a single story of a building is 3" tall. A real shipping container is 8'x8'x20', so it is not unreasonable to design a laser cut version that is 2"x2"x4"; it makes the model only slightly wider and taller than a real one would be.
It is also important to note that there is no street parking in the Tile City. Street parking essentially adds an extra lane or two to the width of a road and that accounts for some of the perception that roads are wider than they really are.
This illusion of scale in a miniatures game brakes down when you realize that a real-world city block is 150'-300' (46m-92m) wide and that would make a single scale block 30"-60" on a gaming table. This means only one or two roads would fit on a table, and that is a lot less fun. As a result, I like to think that a block is 12"-24" wide on the table; that way I get to play with more roads and I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't like roads.
Risks and challenges
FireBucket Games' design and manufacturing division is led by Noel Sorensen; an Electrical Engineer who has worked in industrial manufacturing for over ten (10) years and has several years of practical experience using a variety of laser cutters, other machine tools, and the CAD software that drives them.
-All of the designs and cut plans for T5 and MBBM have been completed and tested through multiple stages of development.
-All stock material has been quoted by FireBucket Games' suppliers.
-Three laser manufacturers have quoted machines to compete for each level of this project.
At present, the most significant delay to the project will be the lead time for the laser cutter itself. The machines are built to order and the quotes range from two (2) to six (6) weeks to build, with another week spent in shipping. During this time all stock material will arrive and the necessary peripheral equipment and building modifications can be installed and tested.
Once the laser is in place, engineering will need to tune it to the material and run several product tests before manufacturing can start. This step will likely be completed by the end of the first day with the full setup.
