About this project
WHAT PAY 2 PLAY IS ABOUT:
PAY 2 PLAY: Democracy's High Stakes is a fun, entertaining film, which just happens to focus on the corrupting influence of money in politics and what we the people can do to fix it. We look at what it takes to run for office in this day and age. But to make it fun, we also look at how our national pastime, the game Monopoly, has created a monopoly mindset of winner takes all. And lastly, we look at the power of the people coming together and having their voices heard in the streets, through both protest AND street art.

WHERE WE ARE WITH PAY 2 PLAY NOW:
We are in the final throes of post-production. We are beginning having the music composed and graphics finalized for the film. We've shown the film to test audiences, including one at Netroots Nation, and they are LOVING IT! They're thrilled we have been able to make a film about a very depressing topic that's both funny, entertaining and makes you leave feeling that you can make a difference.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP:
Hiring all the talented people it takes to finalize the film really adds up. We've been given grants and donations to make the film up to this point, but now we need your help to get across the finish line.
It is also important for us to widen our reach so that as many people see the film as possible. So we need not only your financial help, but also your word of mouth.
Unfortunately, we don't have the budget of a big film - although we will with your help!
WHAT WILL YOUR MONEY PAY FOR:
We need funds for additional clearances for music and licensed footage. We need to pay our composer, sound mixer, music supervisor and colorist. We also have all the costs associated with mastering and printing the DVDs.
WHAT WANT TO GIVE YOU:
There is so much we are excited to share! First of all, we are proud to make out movie poster by Shepard Fairey available for sale, exclusively through this Kickstarter campaign. Second, we have a brand new photo book of street artists and their work in Los Angeles. And of course we have the film and some other goodies.
CAN WE EXCEED OUR GOAL?
YES and please! The more money we raise, the more we have to work with to bring the film to you. You may not realize that the average Hollywood blockbuster spends upwards of $30 million just to get the word out about their films. So if we can raise more, the further this film can go... Our dream raise is $350,000. So if you're in a generous mood, please up your give.
Over the past year, we have created an amazing team of grassroots partners: Center for Media and Democracy, Color of Change, Common Cause, Free Speech For People, Global Exchange - Elect Democracy, MOVI (Money Out Voters In), Move To Amend, Public Campaign, Public Citizen, Rebuild The Dream, Rethink Media, Rock The Vote, Rootstrikers, Represent US and Stamp Stampede. They all believe in the film, having seen a rough cut, so we hope that you will join us too!
WHAT IF WE DON’T REACH OUR GOAL:
If we don’t reach our goal, we don’t get any money, and you don't spend a dime...
So please help us make our goal by spreading the word! Every little bit helps.
I'M REALLY INSPIRED AND IGNITED BY YOUR FILM. HOW ELSE CAN I BE INVOLVED?
Please help us spread the word about our Kickstarter campaign AND our film!

WHAT DO THE REWARDS LOOK LIKE?
Who knew a film about getting money out of politics came with such cool swag?
Check back as we add special items during our campaign!
We are doing a Kickstarter Telethon, releasing a video a day!
We hope you will enjoy our daily video and share them widely.
You'll be meeting the street artists in the film, our film partners and all the amazing work they are doing and some other fun videos.
MAY 4TH IS STAR WARS DAY, so check out this spoof video we made that we thought you'd enjoy!
Risks and challenges
There is little risk in supporting our film because we are really close to the finish line. There could be a delay because of shipping, but we really hope to have the film finished by June and then start making the DVDs and preparing for our theatrical release in August.
We are seasoned filmmakers and we know how to make this happen. Our executive producer, Holly Mosher has produced 10 films (you may have seen Vanishing of the Bees or Bonsai People). And director John Wellington Ennis has made 4 films as well as having a hit cable TV show in NY.
We will do our best to deliver everything on time and to your satisfaction, but if there is any reason for delay, we appreciate your patience.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
