Sharing food stories through an interactive, multi-sensory documentary audio book.
GARLIC & GREENS is producing an audio book packaged as a limited edition box set. The book is centered around interviews about soul food traditions, their southern roots, and the connection to Black history.
Listeners will interact with 3D objects that correspond to the documentary stories they hear. The oral history stories will be enhanced through the sense of touch, taste, and smell.
Why do we need YOUR support? The multi-sensory artist book with audio, tactile and aromatic elements is the final product of a project that has been underway since January 2011 where it started at Archeworks, a design school in Chicago. Institutional donors made the initial investment as we organized public lectures and recorded the oral history interviews. Now we are pre-selling the interactive book in order to make sure there are enough copies for all our dedicated supporters. Most importantly, your pledge will enable us to offer the book for free to those who might benefit the most. Your contribution will allow us to share the project with people who are low or no vision, especially those who have volunteered during the research and development phase of the project.

Originally, we intended for the campaign to set aside 10% of all the audio books for donation. We intend to use any surplus toward sending a larger percentage of the audio books to people who might not otherwise be able to afford them. If possible, we'd also like to have a book launch with a soul food reception to share our thanks with you, our dedicated supporters!
Thanks for your help to share this project with a wider audience!
