What is the Super Secret Spy Agency?
I first created the Super Secret Spy Agency or SSSA four years ago as a free game, it was my first game and quite frankly it wasn't very good, in fact when I decided to remake the game and was reviewing the original rules they made very little sense. Since then I have created hugely popular games like Ghost Ops, Delve and a few others so I hope I have improved a little.
The idea behind the game was to create something that would give the player a feeling of being in a blockbuster spy movie, albeit a tongue in cheek one (think Shoot 'em up). Where they could leap out of the window and shoot the bad guys as they fall, where they could shoot cars that then explode, or where they could drive any type of vehicle or just be good at most things. This added to an immense number of crazy gadgets would create an amazing game.
What are the Rules?
The rules are based around the D20, you roll the dice add the characters Attribute bonus and Ability level and beat a target number, it's as simple as that.
Agents have abilities, these are not like skills but are more like moves. Abilities range from Level 001 which include Shoot from the Hip, Hotwire a Car, to Level 007 which includes Exploding Vehicles, Ballistic Ballet and Ricochet. There are 60 abilities in the game to choose from.
There are also Talents these again range in level from 001 to 007 and include such important skills as Make Martini, Gambler and Infinite Ammo.
A Two Person RPG
The Super Secret Spy Agency is a quick to set up game and is great with just a GM and 1 Player, (it is also great with more than one player, but what RPG isn't). This allows you to get a game going reenacting those awesome movies, where there is one against the many, using their abilities and gadgets to beat the big boss.
Agents have Nine Lives, this means that even though everyone thinks your dead it's possible that you are not, these come with a narrative either a flashback to a prearranged rescue or an item that has stopped the killing shot which you had placed in your pocket earlier. It can be whatever you like, have fun with it.
There are a selection of awesome gadgets already available in the game with more coming and those of you that pledge at the Quartermaster Level can help us build more, so here are a few of what is available.
The game is designed by the same team behind Delve and Ghost Ops both Best Sellers on DTRPG with great reviews. The artist is Rob Last who is having a blast creating the artwork, Rob has worked exclusively on FeralGamersInc games and often even gets involved in other aspects.
The Finished Product
The game will be a PDF or a Softcover book, B&W throughout with the artwork you can see on this page. I am currently planning on around 80-100 pages but this may change. All rewards will be delivered via DriveThruRPG.
We are making available two add-on's these are added to your pledge by increasing the pledge by the amount.
£10 - Mission Pack PDF - 5 Missions for the Super Secret Spy Agency
£10 - Directors Pack - Director's screen and a set of maps that can be used in your games.
If we hit £1000 an Agent File will be included with each pledge as a PDF, this is a book style character sheet which includes all the things you expect to find on a character sheet plus the full list of moves and a section on notes. The book will be form-fillable.
If we reach £1500 every backer will receive a ID card which they can print out and laminate, this card will give you access to a Super Secret Spy Server (Discord) where you can discuss the game, I will post one sheets for free and every one can be all mysterious.
If we reach £2000 two things will happen, the first is that paper Mini's will be added to the Directors Pack, and second all Backers will receive a set of Print & Play cards showing items and bad guys, these can be printed out and stuck on a standard card deck or printed on card. All backers will also receive a code to get the printed card deck from DTRPG for the cost of printing and P&P.
Risks and challenges
The game is being updated which makes the process a lot quicker and in fact, I expect to get this game out a lot sooner than December, but I chose that date to cover for any issues, illness, acts of god etc.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
