Femme Fierce: Reloaded! (2015)Femme Fierce is a passion project. It came from a love of street art and what seemed to be an absence of women involved.
What started off as a crazy idea summer 2013 and culminated with a huge event on International Women's day 2014 with over 106 international and UK based female artists coming together painting huge public arts murals to create a Guinness World record for "largest spray paint mural by a team".
Somehow we (and when I say we, I am talking about all the women and men that came through with advice, support and help) became UK's largest all female street art festival. Now it turns out we are the world's largest simply because there is no other event like Femme Fierce.
This year Femme Fierce will be held on International Women's Day, Sunday 8 March 2015. Following on from the success of last year's event, of finding 106 artists, we are back to do it all again but this time we're asking for your help.
We are excited to see if we can find 150+ international and UK based street artists and graffiti writers to create huge public art murals that run the length of the walls of the Leake Street tunnel in Waterloo, London (affectionately known as the "Banksy tunnel"). The artists will be a mixture of established, up-and-coming and the next generation (under 16s).
Femme Fierce is a celebration of street art that aims to highlight and promote the women that create street art in studios, scale roof tops and enter abandoned buildings to add colour to the grey concrete walls that make up our cityscape for the love of art.
The cost of any festival is sky high and Femme Fierce is no exception. Last year, festival organiser Ayaan met all the costs of the organisation and marketing of the event and the cost of the spray paint was met by the artists themselves. This proved very expensive. This time we are kindly asking the KickStarter community to support us.
We need at least 5 spray cans per artist so this adds up to 750 cans at £4 per can so this means £3000 but we will find the £500 if the KickStarter community can help us with the £2500 we have asked for .
This time round we want Femme Fierce to be both a local and global event through use of the Internet and social media to firmly establish it as an annual fixture on the world street art calendar. This will enable us to attract the best artists to inspire and draw in the next generation of street art lovers but this can only happen with your support.
Please remember that this an all-or-nothing funding venture. We need to hit or exceed our target so please don't delay and support us today.
Risks and challenges
Our biggest concern is that we won't be able to make the festival happen or that we will have to scale it down so it is considerably less engaging.
A scaled down festival would likely mean fewer artists, fewer supplies and would likely cut out one or more of the activities that we plan to organise to keep the public engaged and entertained.
As part of the the event is outdoors, weather could cause problems for the artists which would reduce the amount of wall space the artist can use to paint on.
Public transport issues (should they occur) could make it difficult for artists to get to the venue on time, potentially reducing the time they have to complete their pieces.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
