Why a feminist bookstore tour?
When I learned that barely a dozen feminist bookstores and community centers are still in existence in all of North America, I was shocked.
Being raised in a feminist-minded environment, and having experienced environments that far from resemble the one in which I was raised, I understand the importance and the value of these bookstores and community centers - they invite, encourage, support, engage, and VALUE women’s voices.
While I don’t know what it would be like for someone to have not had access, as I did, to a safe and supportive, feminist-minded environment, I do know that I want everyone to have access to a safe and supportive environment.
I want to help preserve spaces that strive to promote this kind of environment, and, by donating 100% of the funds made from admission to these shows directly to these feminist bookstores and community centers, I plan to do just that.
Given the social and political climate today, I see great importance in completing this tour. Now. This fall.
This campaign will enable me to tour these bookstores this fall.
With this campaign, I am inviting you to be a part of this tour.
I am so excited to launch this campaign, tour to these far-between locations, perform for audiences that share a passion for feminism, and raise funds and awareness for these feminist centers.
No matter your level of contribution to this campaign, I want you to know that I am incredibly grateful for your support.
Where/when is the tour?
These feminist bookstores and community centers are spread out across the United States and Canada.
The first show, held at Charis Books, the nation's oldest feminist bookstore still in operation, will be held Friday, September 28th in Atlanta.

What is Kickstarter?
Kickstarter is a new form of commerce and patronage. Every month, many thousands of people pledge millions of dollars to creative projects. Through this web site, you can give money that will help finance this project, in exchange for a variety of rewards, and the knowledge that you will be helping to produce this tour, and affirm the value of feminist bookstores & community centers.
On Kickstarter, a project must reach its funding goal before the campaign’s end, otherwise no money exchanges hands. It’s an all or nothing venture. So, it’s important to respond soon, and please send a link to anyone you know who might be interested!
Can a campaign exceed a fundraising goal?
Yes - and this would be a dream! My $2,500 campaign goal reflects a minimum budget to complete air travel for this tour. If my Kickstarter goal is exceeded, I would be able to more easily offset my other expenses of travel, as well as production of the album that will be recorded live throughout the tour.
New to Kickstarter? Here's how it works…
A person who supports a project is called a "backer." The process of giving money to a campaign is called a "pledge." In return for your pledge, I (the creator of the campaign) is able to offer "rewards," depending on the amount you pledge.
You are not charged for your pledge until the end of the campaign, and ONLY if the campaign has been successful (read: ONLY if my goal of $2,500 has been met).
