The new chapter in The Few and Cursed saga funded on day 1 in less than five hours and went on to unlock all Phase I stretch goals in three weeks plus a few Phase II goals as well - not to mention going over 1.000 backers one more time!
HERE'S EVERYTHING BACKERS UNLOCKED:
We might not have reached 1.200 backers but damn it if we didn't get close enough and let's face it, this was by far the most thrilling, awesome and jaw-dropping Kickstarter I've ever put together and the reason is YOU.
And that's more than enough reason to celebrate and acknowledge and so the Bonus Stretch Goal has also been unlocked \o/
Welcome to The Few and Cursed 'Part 5' Kickstarter!
Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Kickstarter to publish the 32-page issue #5 of the post-apocalyptic Western series The Few and Cursed: Crows of Mana'Olana!
My name is Felipe Cagno and I'm the co-creator of TFAC alongside Fabiano Neves. I'm the writer, he's the artist, and together we've been working on this title spearheaded by the Redhead for nearly three years now.
Our main dish is obviously The Few and Cursed #5 in either one or all our variant covers but please scroll down to see all the other cool stuff we're offering alongside our latest book!
WHO IS THE MYSTERIOUS REDHEAD?
She is the star of The Few and Cursed in what can be described as a Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets the Old West comic book series.
With amazing support from the Kickstarter community we've been able to publish the series since 2016. We've previously launched six very successfully Kickstarters and we hope to have our best one yet with this one - our sixth!
WAIT. IF THIS IS YOUR SIXTH KICKSTARTER, HOW COME IT'S FOR ISSUE #5?
Great question! On top of the main series (issues 1 thru 5) we have also published a spin-off anthology book featuring short stories set in the same universe called Chronicles of The Few and Cursed.
Since we've used Kickstarter to publish Chronicles and issues 1, 2, 3 and 4, this marks our sixth bout around here. Here's a rundown of our Kickstarters leading up to this one:
THAT'S AWESOME! AND ARE BACK-ISSUES AND CHRONICLES AVAILABLE AS WELL?
Yes, they are, absolutely. Scrolling down our rewards to your right you will find bundles with past issues, packages with Chronicles in both hardcover and softcover format and also in their different cover arts, prints, collectible cards and more!
You might even find early bird specials specifically designed to welcome new readers to The Few and Cursed universe \o/
We're also offering an ISSUE #5 KICKSTARTER EXCLUSIVE edition that will not be available anywhere else ever again with art by Image's Birthright team ANDREI BRESSAN & ADRIANO LUCAS!
This special edition will feature the Kickstarter logo and will be done as PRINT ON DEMAND meaning we will only print as many comics as sold on this campaign. If we go well above our initial goal, we will also have exclusive Stretch Goals to this edition only i.e.: Metal/Holofoil upgrade, new back cover art, numbered series sticker, etc.
*You can add the Kickstarter Exclusive edition or any other item listed below to any tier, please scroll down to ADD-ONS for details.
Oh and since we're launching this Kickstarter right on Halloween we thought it would be fun to celebrate the occasion with an exclusive Mini-Print by Fleer Ultra artist GILBERTO MARTIMIANO JR.!
Look for this print in our more exclusive packages ;)
CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT THE SERIES? WHAT EXACTLY IS THE FEW AND CURSED?
Sure thing! The Few and Cursed is a creator-owned comic book series (and soon to be a deck-building board game by Rock Manor Games!!) about people trying to survive a world where most of the water was just gone overnight in a mysterious apocalyptic event seventy years before in 1840.
Even though what was left of mankind found a way to adapt using water, the most valuable asset on the planet, as currency, survival turned the world into a wicked wasteland where it's either kill or be killed.
And evil not only endured, it won.
People turned to dark arts, old tales of mischief and curses to survive and death is everywhere. But for every darkness there is also light - and among the few and cursed are those willing to fight to bring balance to the lands: the Curse Chasers.
NICE, THAT'S COOL. SO THE REDHEAD IS--
--a Curse Chaser, right.
Every whisper in the night about something terrible, something supernatural, something evil and the Redhead is off to hunt it down.
WAIT, EVIL CURSES? SUPERNATURAL?
Yep, monsters, legends, demons, folklore, etc. The supernatural. The world is now full of it and that simply won't do. Creatures like the mighty Tsilkali shouldn't exist but desperate people turn to desperate measures...
Chief among cursed creatures are The Crows of Mana'Olana - the villains of our first story arc.
CROWS OF WHERE?
Mana'Olana - a small town in the Honolulu Mountains region (what was once Hawaii). That's where the bedtime story about giant Crows that kidnap children in the silent of night comes from.
Oh and while they are taking the kids, they also shred the grown-ups to pieces.
The Crows are not very friendly... they are quite scary actually and exactly the sort of folklore Red loves to investigate and end it.
The Few and Cursed is the ideal comic book for any Western, Adventure or Supernatural fan!
THAT SOUNDS AWESOME! AND HOW MANY ISSUES ARE PLANNED?
The Crows of Mana'Olana storyline will be told in six (6) issues - each with 32 fully colored pages in standard comic book format 6'625 x 10'25.
The first four have already been published thanks to the amazing support of many of you and this is the Kickstarter for issue #5. The epic conclusion will happen in early 2019.
If this is your first time hearing about The Few and Cursed here's an issue by issue synopsis:
Issue #1 introduces the Redhead to readers as we get to see her chase a local Indian myth, the Tsilkali, a giant snake preying on the small town of Mountain Ville, California.
In Issue #2 we follow the Redhead to the border of San Andreas and see her first meeting with a 94-year old survivor of The Reaping, Jebediah Younger. They team up to cross the Pacific after the Crows of Mana’Olana and learn firsthand how real they really are… and how dangerous.
In the next installment of the series, Issue #3, the Redhead and Jebediah finally make it to Mana’Olana. In a flashback story, readers will learn what the Redhead is truly capable of.
Issue #4 features the very first big battle with the Crows in Mana'Olana. We also go deeper in Red's fatherly relationship with Jebediah and unravel some of his background.
Last but not least, Issue #5 finally starts answering questions about the myth of the Crows and turns the hunt around on the Redhead - is she hunting the Crows or is it the other way around?
THOSE SNIPPETS WERE GREAT BUT HOW ABOUT SOME REAL PREVIEWS FROM EVERY ISSUE?
What's a great story without some terrific art to go along with it, right?
Fabiano Neves is a master storyteller with 20 years of experience working with comics and The Few and Cursed is his passion project.
Needless to say all that passion really oozes into his work:
And now an exclusive sneak peek at never before seen pages from upcoming issue #5:
WHAT ABOUT THAT CHRONICLES OF THE FEW AND CURSED SPIN-OFF ANTHOLOGY? CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT IT?
Of course I can! As I've mentioned before The Chronicles of The Few and Cursed is an anthology featuring short stories by top artists set in the same universe.
The book collects 8 brand new stories - including two exclusive Redhead tales - for a total of 96 fully colored pages and was produced both in softcover format and hardcover.
*By popular demand you can now add a digital copy of Chronicles to your pledge for $5!
With Chronicles we were able to explore the four corners of the world and how other cultures around the planet have dealt and continue to deal with the disappearance of most of the water.
Visit a Persian city overtaken by horrifying Daevas, raid a tomb in Egypt after the Eye of Horus and get lost in a shark cemetery in the Australian outback.
Meet the team of artists behind Chronicles:
Luke Ross, Luis Guerrero, Pedro Mauro, Marco Lesko, José Luis, Andrew Dalhouse, Arthur Medeiros, Tiago Barsa, Geraldo Borges, Vinicius Townsend, Felipe Watanabe, Natália Marques, Sam Hart, Wesllei Manoel, Adriano Di Benedetto, Walter Pax & Marcio Menyz.
The world of The Few and Cursed goes a lot further than the Old West!
ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT. WHAT ABOUT THE COLLECTIBLE CARDS, COINS, PRINTS, CAN YOU TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THOSE EXTRAS?
I've always been a fan of collectible cards and back on issue #2 when we unlocked enough Stretch Goals I thought it'd be cool to offer premium cards featuring new and exclusive artwork by top artists.
Since then we've been unlocking and offering new cards every Kickstarter.
Our latest release is a 9-card set by superstar artist DANUSKO CAMPOS that forms a single poster and shows Red's unique abilities.
This particular set is included in our higher tiers but you can add it to any pledge - please scroll down to our Add-On section for details.
If you are looking to get all the cards previously released, here's a checklist:
- The Signature Series
These cards were all given away as Stretch Goal bonuses and every Kickstarter we aim to do two brand new cards. We've released seven cards so far (pictured above) and I hope to publish cards #8 and #9 featuring art by Naughty Dog's HYOUNG and Dreamworks Animation AMELIA VIDAL this time around.
These will be included in EVERY package arriving in the mail if we unlock their Stretch Goals. Cards #1 thru #7 can be added on to any package.
- The Villains Series (Metal 9-card set that forms a poster)
These were given away as a major Stretch Goal bonus when we hit 1.000 backers in our previous Kickstarter. Featuring art by DC Comics JOSÉ LUIS and colors by ANDREW DALHOUSE these cards feature every villain of The Few and Cursed so far.
Can we hit 1.000 backers again for another 9-card set surprise?
- The Crows Series (Metal 9-card set that forms a poster)
Last but not least is this gorgeous 9-card set that shows the mighty of the Crows in a huge battle scene by Marvel Comics / Star Wars superstar artist LUKE ROSS and colors by LUIS GUERRERO.
On top of the previously show past issues and the spin-off anthology Chronicles of TFAC, we also offer a number of pretty cool rewards. Check it out:
- Collectible Coin #1: Crows
Something we started on the Kickstarter for issue #4 that we also aim to continue doing: THEMATIC COLLECTIBLE COINS.
These are 3-D sculpted and then printed in antiqued brass molds and feature different curses across the series. The first of the series celebrates The Crows of Mana'Olana and much like our other collectibles can be added on to any pledge.
* Returning Backers please note this is the same coin given away as part of the Stretch Goals unlocked in The Few and Cursed #4 Kickstarter \o/
For those really hardcore fans we also offer PRINTS!
Set of 3x prints
They come in a large A3 size (11.69 x 16.53 inches) matte high-end paper. The prints come in bundles of 3 or 8 and there won't be any substitution so please make sure you are getting the ones that caught your eye.

AND WHO'S THE TEAM BEHIND THE FEW AND CURSED SERIES?
FELIPE CAGNO - Writer & Editor
I'm 34 years old and I have been working pretty much exclusively with comics since 2013. I have a background in film making, got my Master's degree at Chapman University and wrote and directed my first feature-length film in 2012, A Bullet With No Name.
My first comic book series was The Lost Kids: Seeking Samarkand epic adventure. It was an adaptation of a feature screenplay I wrote while at Chapman and working at production companies like Arad Pictures, Weed Road and Misher Films.
Trying a different approach to comics, I came up with the short narrative challenge "321": comic book stories with 3 pages, 2 characters and 1 twist ending. The 321: Fast Comics series was kickstarted right here in 2015 and featured stories from every genre you can think of with a myriad of top-name artists attached to them.
On top of The Few and Cursed I also have another creator-owned series in the works, Classified, a spy thriller. Earlier this year I completed two original graphic novels. Too Good to Be True is a dramedy about a wannabe comic book artist that meets his inspirational Hollywood crush.
Choices: A Hero's Tale is a graphic novel about a young guy that wants to be the world's first real superhero. It's inspired by the comics from the 50s and 60s when superheroes were lighthearted fun.
Recently I also got the opportunity to write a Planet of the Apes short story for comic book app Madefire and Fox. Last but not least I'm currently working on the sci-fi drama Adagio which was the recipient's of a prestigious grant in Brazil last year.
FABIANO NEVES - Artist
Professionally working as an artist since he was nineteen years old, Fabiano was first published in the US in 2000 with Xena Warrior Princess. He then went on to work for Marvel, DC, Dark Horse and Dynamite among other publishers.
A talented colorist as well, Fabiano has done both interior pages and covers for Xena, Marvel Zombies, Red Sonja, Robocop, JLA’s Vibe and Constantine among many other titles. The Few and Cursed represents Fabiano’s first creator-owned project.
DINEI RIBEIRO & TIAGO BARSA - Colorists
Our amazing duo of colorists has met tremendous success at Marvel, DC Comics, Dynamite, Zenescope, Boom and other publishers.
Dinei Ribeiro is currently working with Ed Benes at DC Comics on titles like Harley Quinn, Green Lantern and Trinity (Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman) - he was our initial colorist and the talent behind setting the tone, palette and feel for The Few and Cursed comics. He's colored issues #1 thru #4 and still does some work for the series whenever his schedule allows.
Newcomer Tiago Barsa has been with us since issue #3 and has taken over coloring duties for issue #5 really surprising us with every page he carefully crafts. His credits include work for Ape Entertainment and Ed Benes Studio.
DEYVISON MANES - Letterer
One of the best letterers in Brazil, Deyvison has built an impressive body of work over the past couple of years and is slowly tackling more and more titles for the US comic market.
He's been with The Few and Cursed since the beginning and has also done every other book I've ever published. He is also a crafty writer and has his own creator-owned sci-fi book - Justiça Sideral.
THAT'S ONE HECK OF A TEAM! WHAT ABOUT SOME OF THE PIN-UPS I'VE SEEN AROUND THE WEB AND HERE TOO, WHAT'S UP WITH THOSE?
Because we've used Kickstarter to fund past issues and always had awesome support to go well beyond our initial goal we were always able to include a Gallery of Guest Artists where we commission some amazing artists to share their version of the Redhead.
As issue #5 has already been successfully crowdfunded in Brazil, I'm happy to announce our line-up of Guest Artists and offer sneak peeks at their art:
- Germana Viana
- Octavio Cariello
- Hiro Kawahara
- Guilherme Asthma
- Alessandro Almeida
EVERYTHING SOUNDS GOOD! WHAT ABOUT YOUR BUDGET AND SHIPPING, CARE TO TALK A LITTLE ABOUT THEM?
Fabiano and I are all about 100% transparency and we believe you deserve to know where your money is going to.
All of the money raised by Kickstarter will be used towards four things: Production, Printing, Shipping and Fees.
Here’s a breakdown of our costs:
Any additional funding over the initial goal will first cover whatever is left from the above and all the extras like collectible cards, pin-ups, magnets, etc, and production of future books of The Few and Cursed saga.
I'm also substantially raising our shipping supplies budget to give our Shipping process yet another upgrade.
We already pack and mail our rewards using hard cardboard photo mailers plus dust-free clear plastic bags and comic book sized card-boards.
*** For higher tiers or packages with extra books we will use Easy-Fold Mailers and bubble wrap:
*** We also ship our prints using thick cardboard mailer tubes:
Our primary goal is to entertain you and release the series entirely through Kickstarter. It all starts with YOU and YOUR support so thanks so much for sticking with us.
If you have any questions please send me a message or shoot an e-mail at email@example.com
Risks and challenges
This will be my Kickstarter #10, the twenty-first crowdfunding if you count my experience with a similar platform in Brazil, and by now I can say I have a pretty good handle of what to expect prior, during and after a lengthy campaign.
I love crowdfunding, it's an excellent opportunity to get in direct touch with readers and fans. If you have any criticism, feedback or question, I'm always around whether it's through Kickstarter's inbox or at firstname.lastname@example.org
I don't anticipate any delays on our estimated shipping date unless we really unlock all Stretch Goals and then need some more time to produce the extra items but other than that, we're good to go!
With that said, I've worked with enough printers to know that on my part we will be ready in time to meet our delivery date but they can always delay production. Because we print in Asia there's always extraordinary circumstances to take into account - monsoon season, Chinese New Year, customs, it all happened to previous projects in the past but I'm happy to say I've ALWAYS delivered.
My biggest challenge is always shipping. I'm always looking for ways to make your packages arrive as safely as possible and in a timely manner. It's not easy... I've actually made friends with my local post-office dealing with such a difficult logistic but I feel I've made improvements and there is always room for growth.
For this campaign I plan on streamlining the logistics for some of our higher-end reward tiers offering prints instead of original art. Everything will be ready for shipping by March 2019.
All in all I'm glad you are here and thanks so much for backing!
