THANK YOU FOR AN AWESOME KICKSTARTER!
The Few and Cursed will be back in March/April 2017 for issue #3!
But in the meantime you can find us on Comixology for digital editions at https://www.comixology.com/The-Few-and-Cursed/comics-series/77377 or feel free to follow me and be notified when the new issue goes online on Kickstarter by hitting that nifty "Follow" button right up there on the right hand side of the page just next to my profile picture.
The Few and Cursed is a six-part comic series by Felipe Cagno (that would be me :D) and Fabiano Neves, with colors by Dinei Ribeiro & Marcio Menyz and lettering by Deyvison Manes. We successfully launched issue #1 on Kickstarter earlier this year and we plan to come back to the platform for each new issue.
This campaign is to raise funds to print ISSUE #2 and perhaps some Stretch Goals along the way to allow us to deliver even more goodies than our first bout here on Kickstarter.
If you are hearing about this for the very first time (welcome!!) and want to get issue #1 as well, we have some nifty combos for ya including a very limited opportunity to grab our New York Comic Con exclusive variant by ComicXposure!
A quick synopsis for newcomers:
The Few and Cursed is a post-apocalyptic western set in an alternate 1910 where most of the water on the planet has been gone for seventy years.
Without water, civilization just halted any progress and stayed pretty much the same... with the exception of the monsters, black magic and curses that consequently showed up.
Like the good ol' westerns, we get to meet a nameless character, the Redhead, one of very few Curse Chasers in the world struggling to balance the scale a little bit.
This first adventure puts the Redhead right on the heels of an old Hawaiian bedtime story: The Crows of Mana'Olana.
Parents tell their children about gigantic Crows that come in the cold night to snatch them off their beds if they do not behave. It's about time to find out how real is the legend... and how dangerous.
In Issue One we were introduced to the Redhead and saw her go after the Tsilkali, a giant snake preying on the small town of Mountain Ville.
As she is ready to skip town after her next curse she learns of the legend of The Crows of Mana'Olana and how a stranger came about asking questions about them.
Issue Two will introduce readers to the stranger, a 94-years old and survivor of The Reaping, and take us closer than ever to the Crows.
Here's a small preview from the Brazilian edition released last month (sorry for all the Portuguese!)
- Part 2 of 6 - The Crows of Mana'Olana
- Standard comic book format: 6'625" x 10'25"
- 26 full colored pages
- Regular cover by DC Comics WILL CONRAD & MARCELO MAIOLO
- Incentive variant cover by FÁBIO VALLE
- Kickstarter Eastwood variant cover by VITOR CAFFAGI
Production on issue #2 has been complete and we expect to start shipping out the rewards about twelve weeks after the end of this Kickstarter campaign.
We print our books in China and that process usually takes about ten weeks from approval to customs and delivery.
Variant covers give us an opportunity to showcase and collaborate with artists we admire and that can give our character a different spin.
For issue two, our variant covers are done by top digital painter FÁBIO VALLE and by one of Brazil's most popular comic storytellers VITOR CAFAGGI reinterpreting a classic Eastwood film poster.
As you can tell from the quick preview all in Portuguese, this has been crowdfunded and released in Brazil already and we actually hit some exciting Stretch Goals along the way.
One of them was a Pin-Up Gallery with artwork by top artists and I would love to bring those into this edition of the comic as well. How about we go chase those Stretch Goals then, huh?
FELIPE CAGNO - Writer
I'm 32 years old and I have been working pretty much exclusively with comics since 2013. I have a background in filmmaking, got my Master's degree at Chapman University and wrote and directed my first feature-length film in 2012, A Bullet With No Name.
My first comic book series was The Lost Kids: Seeking Samarkand epic adventure. It was an adaptation of a feature screenplay I wrote while at Chapman and working at producing companies like Arad Pictures, Weed Road and Misher Films.
Trying a different approach to comics, I came up with the short narrative challenge "321": comic book stories with 3 pages, 2 characters and 1 twist ending. The 321: Fast Comics (both volumes available right here as part of rewards packages or add-ons) series was Kickstarted right here last year, and featured stories from every genre you can think of with a myriad of top-name artists attached to them.
Recently I got the opportunity of writing a Planet of the Apes short story for comic book app Madefire and Fox.
FABIANO NEVES - Artist
Professionally working as an artist since he was nineteen years old, Fabiano was first published in the US in 2000 with Xena Warrior Princess. He then went on to work for Marvel, DC, Dark Horse and Dynamite among other publishers.
A talented colorist as well, Fabiano has done both interior pages and covers for Xena, Marvel Zombies, Red Sonja, Robocop, JLA’s Vibe and Constantine among many other titles. The Few and Cursed represents Fabiano’s first creator-owned project.
DINEI RIBEIRO - Colorist
Dinei has been working with illustration since 2007 for advertising companies until he decided to try his luck in comics through his own studio.
The gamble paid off as Dinei has a number of titles in his resume for companies like Dynamite, Zenescope and Legendary Comics. His credits include interior pages and covers for “Red Sonja”, “Vampirella”, “Green Hornet”, ”John Carter & Dejah Thoris” and a still to be announced project with partner and top artist Ed Benes for Legendary.
Pretty excited to announce we unlocked all our Stretch Goals! That's a whole lot of bling for your buck including a brand new and exclusively commissioned artwork by Harvey Tolibao!
And not to mention our big prize, the ASHCAN edition of the comic in true western classic format!
That's right, that's double the comic books for every backer that pledged for a print edition!!
Lots of cool stuff to look for including both 321: Fast Comics books as part of reward packages or as an add-on. Interesting to know the Redhead's first appearance was on 321: Fast Comics Vol. 1!
The 321: Fast Comics is a comic book anthology series published last year with two volumes right here on Kickstarter with some of today's biggest comic book names taking up the challenge of producing short stories with:
1 Twist Ending
Some of the artists in the series include Ivan Reis, Alex Sinclair, RB Silva, Joe Prado, Andrew Dalhouse, Cris Peter, Marcelo Maiolo, Rod Reis, Israel Silva and many more! You can check some of our reviews below:
"Just jam-packed with so many pages of good comics." -- Ain't It Cool News

*Important notice: Due to high volume of art books with sketches on them sold in our last campaign we are not able to offer these again. Fabiano did his best to accommodate everyone's sketch request but it ultimately delayed delivery and production of our next issue. Sorry, guys!
Commissions are still available upon request though. E-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org or send me an inbox message right here on Kickstarter.
Unfortunately due to difficulty in importing these statues from Brazil, I must say these are not available anymore. I will leave the photos here for everyone to see, they are gorgeous product shots, but really I'd rather not put them up for sale than take forever to mail these out.
Post-office services really can't be trusted nor airline companies and it's with a sad heart that I must share that two statues out of six were damaged in transit from Brazil to the US.
I apologize for everyone thinking of purchasing these but until we can find a logistic solution, these won't be sold anymore. Thanks for understanding!
This was sculpted by Eddie Vieira, owner and chief sculptor of Making Magic, Brazil's leading and finest collectibles' studio. His previous experience includes work for Sideshow Collectibles and Iron Studios.
Fabiano and I are all about 100% transparency and we believe you deserve to know where your money is going to.
All of the money raised by Kickstarter will be used towards three things: Printing, Shipping and Fees.
Here’s a breakdown of our costs:- Printing - $2,532.27
- Shipping - $1,900.00 (rough estimate based on my last KS)
- Shipping supplies - $500
- Fees (10% Kickstarter) - $458.22
Total - $5,405.47
Any additional funding over our goal will first cover whatever is left from the above and then production of future issues.
I'm also substantially raising our shipping supplies budget to give our Shipping process yet another upgrade. We already pack and mail our rewards using hard cardboard photo mailers plus dust-free clear plastic bags and I'm also looking to give this a boost with cardboards inside the package as well.
Our primary goal is to entertain you and release the series entirely through Kickstarter. It all starts with YOU and YOUR support so thanks so much for sticking with us :D
Risks and challenges
This will be my 4th Kickstarter project, 12th crowdfunding campaign if you count my experience with a similar platform in Brazil, and by now I can say I have a pretty good handle of what to expect prior, during and after a lengthy campaign.
I love crowdfunding, it's an excellent opportunity to get in direct touch with readers and fans. If you have any criticism, feedback or question, I'm always around to open a dialogue with you whether it's through Kickstarter's Message system or email at email@example.com
My biggest challenge is always delivery. I'm always looking for ways to make your packages as safe as possible and arrive in a timely manner. It's not easy... I've actually made friends with my local post-office dealing with such a difficult logistic but I feel I've made improvements and there is always room for growth.
For this campaign I plan on ordering the books as soon as we have a good guess about the demand, potentially 2-3 weeks in. I also plan on streamlining the logistics for some of our higher-end reward tiers, especially those including the statue and original artwork since those are not dependent upon myself only.
As I mentioned before production on issue 2 is complete and I expect to ship everything about 12 weeks after the campaign ends. I use Print Ninja for my printing needs and they print and ship the books from China so that process takes about 10 weeks. The extra two are for signing everything, packing and then going to the post-office for a few days.
All in all I'm glad you are here and thanks so much for backing!
