About this project
We welcome you to Sherwood!
From the makers of Baker Street: Roleplaying in the World of Sherlock Holmes comes a brand new RPG. Hood: Swashbuckling Adventures in Sherwood.
The game features:
- A Swashbuckling Stunt system where you name each and every one of your attacks, defenses, and actions! Improving all 3 after every session.
- A Story Pool system that works skills, professions, virtues, vices, traits, equipment, and stunts into each and every roll.
- An Icon Die that features Robin, Marian, and the Sheriff of Nottingham.
- Pluck and Swashbuckling Momentum rules to perform feats of Derring Do!
In Hood, you take dice from different categories, building a story pool to define your actions.
1. Pick one die from your skills or professions, whichever skill or profession you plan on using.
2. Take one die from either your physical traits or your personality traits.
3. Pick a virtue or vice that’s affecting this roll and pick out that die.
4. Define your actual stunt. If your stunt is already listed use the two dice associated with that stunt. If this is a brand new stunt, pick up 2d4.
5. If you are using a tool or item with your skill, take the appropriate die for that.
Pickup an Icon Die and roll everything. Any dice that come up as 4s or higher are successes. Any rolled 1s, 2s, and 3s, are failures. Count the number of successes and compare that number against the difficulty or the opposed roll of the target.
Check out this short video from Bryce's Design Journal #1 where he goes through building a Story Pool Roll.
The Icon Die is a special die that is rolled with every roll in the game. The sides are numerical 1, 2, 3, a Maid Marian icon, a Sheriff of Nottingham icon, and a Robin Hood icon.
If the result of The Icon Die is a numerical value (1, 2, or 3), that value rolled on any of the other dice in the roll is counted as a success.
A Robin Hood icon is a wild result and allows the player the choice of a 1, 2, or 3. A Marian result allows the player to gain one extra success, and a Sheriff result is a bad result. When the Sheriff is rolled, each unsuccessful result removes one success from the roll.
In order to make the game easier to organize we have a number of cards that make up the Sherwood Deck. These are condition and reference cards that can be used throughout the game. Some come into play during special events. Others are utilized in the event of a tie.
Combat and Story Artifacts: These are special items. Artifacts come in two flavors, Combat Artifacts and Story Artifacts. Story Artifacts you keep the entire adventure, while Combat Artifacts are used during fights and rotate from player to player.
Clash of Blades: When a tie occurs in Melee Combat, dramatics will occur as the two characters stare each other down and their weapons clash. Forget the attack, it failed to do damage as weapons clash. The two characters enter into a short war of wits.
Reference Cards: Some of the other Sherwood Deck cards are for reference and track things like Wounds and Special Conditions. The first time in a scene someone at the table says something witty (the Scribe’s call) and adds that element to the story, they get an extra d4 on their next roll. This is referred to as the “Witty Banter” advantage.

His previous works include several products for Baker Street: Roleplaying in the World of Sherlock Holmes and The Defeated Dead and The French and Indian War for Rogue Games’ epic historical horror RPG, Colonial Gothic. He did the development work for “Coffins and Tombstones,” the first setting in The Spectrum System and holds a history degree from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He spends most of his time gaming and writing and being a cat tree for Augustus Kato.
Shipping: The Good and The Bad
Hood will be printed in both the USA and Europe and fulfilled by DriveThruRPG. This means that we've been able to improve our shipping rates for international pledges. This is good because now, shipping books to international backers is less expensive! The bad is that while we've lessened the book pricing, shipping decks of cards is considerably more expensive. This is why most of our pledge levels have PDF copies of The Sherwood Deck built in. The levels with the physical copies of the deck have much higher shipping rates.See below for a cost breakdown for books and cards to various locations.
