Hello! Welcome to the FIXIT Magazine project (fixit-mag.com)~
FIXIT is a being developed as a quarterly serialised comic and illustration magazine (issue #1 shipping january 2011) to showcase the talents of many artists that don't quite have chance to realise their ideas in print simply because there aren't enough opportunities in the industry.
The contents per issue are: - 5 total comic stories (4 serialised in chapters, 1 oneshot) - 10 full colour illustrations - 1 feature article with an illustrator or comic artist
As a fan of independent publishing and attending comic conventions for the last decade, my attention was always drawn to the artists who spent their time inbetween schoolwork or 2nd jobs to make their comics or sell their artwork. Many of them have been able to produce great printed work, but also this is just a handful who are able to show at these conventions. There are still many artists that I would love to see printed and completed work who are not able to because of their own financial constraints and also just lack of publishing knowledge.
FIXIT's aim is to bring out comic and illustration talent for 2 reasons: - give artists a place where they know they can see their work in print and experience how to work under a scheduled process - create a magazine that is substantial in content and reminds everyone about the awesomeness that is print.
The name was conceived from my personal habit of not swearing (since F*X*T can look and sound close to a wonderful swear) and just the feeling like i want to fix this print industry somehow. It's a medium I love and comics and art are perfect for it, I would hate to see it disappear, though I know one magazine cannot save it~
As a designer for a publisher, I see daily the effects of the modern age on print production. Although print is a dying form, there are things that cannot be replaced by digital versions. From a personal level, FIXIT was imagined as a way for me to do that one epic thing in life that I can look back at and say, "at least I accomplished that". My general nature is to help people when they need my help (as I've helped friends produce their artbooks, card projects, websites) so I've just melded what i do on my spare time with what I dreamed to do with my own time, and that's FIXIT!
The video has more to see! And i've had the honour of some lovely artists providing artwork for the reward goods, so I'm super excited and I hope it has excited you enough to support this project and other print projects as well!!
