This is a feature film based on a series of essays by Mark Phinney on weight and it's effects on his life from women, to work as well as his mental and emotional health. While funny, it is a real, unflinching look at food addiction.
In the ain of films like Love Liza and Heavy, Fat is a real and raw look at food addiction and the ups and downs of being over weight in this world.
Mel Rodriguez (Little Miss Sunshine) plays Ben: A man who lives an unhealthy lifestyle in every way from food to smoking, as well as his mental and emotional baggage stemming from trauma that occurred in his life. His friends try to help him, but he just won't listen. Doctors try, but he won't heed their warnings.
As Ben's life heads to a dark place, he meets Audrey, an over weight, but secure, confident girl who just may be able to save him if he can open his eyes and not be so closed off to love and happiness.
Fat is a locally made film on a shoe string budget with the love and support of friends and family, and the city of Boston. It is a passion project that features local bands, businesses, cast and crew.
The only funding we are looking for is for food and incidentals. We have been fortunate enough to have our cast, crew, locations and equipment for free!
We also need funding for the post production process. Editing and sound post can get expensive.
Our film stars Mel Rodriguez. Mel has an impressive resume from theatre, TV and film. Mel has played roles in such films as Little Miss Sunshine, Ben Stiller's The Watch and TV (The George Lopez Show and Hot In Cleveland).
Also included in our cast is Charlene Amoia of How I Met Your Mother, and most recently American Reunion.
Included in our crew is DP/Producer PH O'Brien. PH has worked on some of the coolest documentary's of the past decade including How's Your News?. O'Brien has worked with great directors like Steve James (Hoop Dreams) and most recently working in LA with the South Park crew.
Fat features some of the best, and coolest local Boston bands, bringing a musical backdrop to the movie that compliments the story of Ben and his ups and downs.
Some of the great bands involved are - The Michael J. Epstien Library, Mel Lederman, Eldrige Rodriguez, Stereo Telescope, and The Fagettes.
