About

I graduated from medical school 4 years ago, but unfortunately I have not been able to match into an Internal Medicine residency program. I spent nearly 7 years in the medical field, and have seen first-hand the lack of empathy, support, and education offered to patients. This is a disservice that has grave implications on society. To many, a diagnosis such as cancer, hypertension, or diabetes seems like a death sentence that can certainly compromise quality of life and psychological well-being. Diseases and disorders have become a debilitating stigma in today's society that holds people hostage, making them feel defeated, helpless, and ashamed of their condition.  I have seen it many, many times. But it does not have to be this way, and I am going to change this concept.

So I started my own company called FashionAtomy. It is not about the jewelry per se. Rather, it's a concept; a movement, and a symbol for hope and change.

I combined my passion for art and medicine to launch a collection of jewelry lines that are unique for each disease and disorders to empower patients to accept their condition, help them take charge of it, and raise public awareness of these diseases and disorders. The pieces represent a symbol of acknowledgement, and wearing them serves as a constant reminder to never give up the fight. The concept is simple: If you are going through a chronic condition, wear it proudly. You just never know who will be inspired in the process. Or simply wear it to show your support for a loved one who is struggling with one. This will build a sense of solidarity with them.

My models are abstract, engineered to spark curiosity from onlookers. This creates the perfect opportunity to initiate dialogue about that specific design, hence raising the awareness of the disease or disorder in question and possibly inspiring them.

I have a drawing pad full of designs that I want to turn into necklaces, charms, earrings, and even rings. I started with breast cancer and depression (shown below)

and will be launching this pendant on October 1. This will be followed by Down's syndrome, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, hypertension, and so on. Unfortunately, my funds are very limited, and 100% of the money raised from this campaign will go towards producing the rest of my designs. With your help, I intend to kick-start production, and have the necklaces and charms available in less than 3 months. I am also launching a men's collection to include leather bracelets and necklaces.

The cost of these items will range from $40-$70, depending on the designs and type of metal used.

They will mainly be composed of sterling silver, with some designs containing sapphire stones.

The icing on the cake? A percentage of the proceeds will go towards cancer research, charities, and each of the disease's respective foundation.

I hope you share my vision for the future, and join me in this revolution to take back our health. Let us shift our perception of disease and disorders, and shatter the notion that we are powerless. We will prevail, one design at a time.

Risks and challenges

My main concern is finding a manufacturer who will produce my jewelry at a low cost. I originally found someone who will create them for around $87 a piece, which is extremely high. Fortunately, I found another one who will do the same design for around $25-$30. I will always be on the lookout for a lower cost without compromising quality. I do not anticipate any delays with manufacturing, since the people I work with consistently meet deadlines.
