WHO WE ARE
We are former staff of Domy Books. With the sudden closing of Domy Austin, we have taken it upon ourselves to try and continue the spirit of this groundbreaking bookstore. Under the new name, FAREWELL BOOKS, we will be opening in the same location at 913 E Cesar Chavez. Our hope is to invoke the spirit of Domy, continuing its inventive approach to offering literary ephemera while simultaneously acting as a cultural hub for the Austin community.
WHAT FAREWELL WANTS TO GIVE AUSTIN
FAREWELL BOOKS will function as a vital space for contemporary culture and community. We will be a center for happenings, art openings, release parties, poetry and prose readings, as well as a performance space for theater, film, workshops, and much more. We will continue to stock the same kinds of hard to find books and magazines you love, and will introduce an online shop and a curated section of used books to the shop. In order to further ensure our survival, we will be subdividing the space with a few vendors. We will be keeping Juliaʼs amazing food trailer, Schmaltz in the back, and with our opening we will be helping to resurrect Veronica Ortunoʼs shop Las Cruxes.
With this campaign we hope to reach out to the community of creative people who have contributed to the shop over the years. Perhaps Domy hosted one of your events, helped you release a magazine or comic, or were able to provide a space for your discussion. Maybe you were an artist featured in one of our art exhibitions or your band was part of one of Domy’s successful SXSW showcases. Regardless, if Domy has been a part of your life in one way or another, consider donating to our campaign and help FAREWELL BOOKS serve community of Austin.

Risks and challenges
When Domy was forced to close we were both heartbroken and confused. Opening a book shop and keeping it alive and growing is not an easy task these days. Smart and independent bookshops can survive, but it has to be a labor of love. This shop exists for the love of art, books, and community. We both have or are trying to acquire second and third jobs to make this all happen. There's no money in opening a bookshop, you do it for something else. Please, please, help us reach our goal and spread the word.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
