The Inferno is a customized 56 card black and metallic ink playing card deck printed by USPCC and Inspired by Dante Alighieri's literary classic "The Divine Comedy."
Three months in the making, each of the Jacks, Queens, and Kings represents a major figure from The Inferno.
Each completely original character was designed as a modern interpretation that is true to the text and framed after the most famous "Inferno" Illustrations created by renowned artist Gustave Dore in the 19th Century. Staying true to that vision, we have created images utilizing he original Dore plates for our backgrounds.
* STRIPPER DECKS EXPLAINED:
A Stripper deck (also know as a Tapered Deck) is a special magic deck that allows the user to easily control the position of any one or several cards. In one trick, the unsuspecting pulls any card from the deck, looks at it, and hands it back without allowing you to see it. With this deck, you can pull that one card out of the deck 100% of the time with almost no training (literally, it's a 5 second learning curve).
In another trick, you separate all the red suits from the black (white in this particular deck). You then make one small adjustment that no one will pick up on. You can shuffle the cards as many times as you like. You can flip the cards upside down to show the spectator that the cards are, indeed, shuffled. You then pull from the center and, voila!, all the red and white suits are separated again. The learning curve on this trick is about one minute.
We have attached the following video for a visual demonstration:
To our knowledge, we are the only producer that offers these decks because they are very expensive to produce (almost 80% more than regular decks). Accordingly, these are only available as an add-on item.
Risks and challenges
We have received approval for our designs by USPCC. So, if we hit our goal, the only potential issue may be a printing error/delay. We have set the expected date far enough out to hopefully compensate for any issues that may arise. We hope to have the cards earlier than September, but we set the anticipated delivery date further out so hopefully we can ship on time regardless of unexpected delays.
Regarding the last deck "The Hedge": As of 6/24/13, we have delivered approximately 70% of the Decks. The Hedge project didn't go as smoothly as planned because there was an oversight by the printer regarding the final update to our files and we had to figure out how to deal with it.
Unlike the Hedge deck, the Inferno Deck was created with all original art, so there is far less potential for error/delay on both sides of the coin (us and USPCC) because we aren't having to go through the painstaking alteration of an existing USPCC template. We have also already received approval from the printer for the Inferno Deck. Accordingly, we really hope that no printing issues will arise.
