Our goal at Primal Pastures is to produce food that we feel good about feeding to ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren – food that is grown responsibly, sustainably, and according to nature's brilliant design. We believe that there is a better way – a higher calling if you will – that we truly are or will become what we eat.Primal Pastures is the outgrowth of:

3. A vision of raising the best meat in the world produced in Southern California
In 2012, we launched a humble little ranch operation in Temecula, California. We did this with a dream of producing premium grade, healthy and happy poultry, beef, lamb, pork, and turkey raised locally, sustainably, and responsibly by healthy farmers for healthy families. Starting on one acre of pastureland, we began to raise 54 free-range, pasture pure, primal chickens and accrued a waitlist of more than 100 families before the first batch of birds was even ready. Although our farm has grown since then, we have still never been able to catch up with the demand for local, high quality meats.
In April 2013, we signed a lease for over 200 acres of pastureland in Southern California. Since we’ve been farming on 2.5 acres for the last 12 months, this is a lot of land for us. It’s enough land to make a significantly positive impact on the local food system here in Southern California.
Our vision is to establish a “permaculture” - a system that effectively models the natural ecosystem with many varieties of plants and animals acting in synergy with one another on one farm. There are beautiful things that happen when Cattle and Sheep are incorporated with chickens, turkeys, and ducks. The cattle and sheep move ahead and mash up the soil, dropping nature’s best fertilizer (manure) along their way. The chickens, turkeys and ducks follow in trace and pick at the bugs and worms behind the ruminants and provide more of that fertilizer while cleansing the land and spreading out the cattle and sheep poop. This leads to disturbed earth and nutrient-packed soil that is not just sustainable but also regenerative.
In a day in age in which over 40% of methane emissions come from factory farming and more than 50% of antibiotics are administered to animals, we are actively challenging the direction that the American Meat industry is heading in and providing an alternative course of action.
To sum it all up, we respect nature. A lot. Actually, we are the first to acknowledge that nature is smarter than we are. It’s also smarter than science. Everything that we do is aimed at creating a natural habitat for our animals to thrive in.
For chickens, this means a true free-range experience from day one where they are raised outside, on grass, soaking up the Vitamin D and scratching at the ground for bugs and worms. The supplemental feed that we provide is Organic and free of GMO’s or Soy, and contains items found in a chicken’s natural diet. Our birds are given the ability to roam around and do things chickens are meant to do on a spacious grassy area that is rotated twice weekly to allow the grass time to recover and give the birds fresh forage to munch on.
Our sheep are pasture pure and truly free range, receiving no grain throughout their entire lives. They are treated humanely and forage on pasture every day of their lives. They live in a low stress environment and are rotated to fresh pastures twice weekly to simulate the mob grazing effect found in nature.
Since day one, we have spared no expense and our commitment to quality and integrity is unfaltering. No matter how much we grow, at the end of the day we are feeding this food to our children and grandchildren, and you can rest assured that our animals are living the life that they were designed for.
We have budgeted out the cash requirements that are necessary for the expansion our farm and have determined that $40,000 will allow us to add three species to our current operation: ducks, turkeys, and cattle!
First, we will introduce pastured turkeys and ducks into our grazing plan. This will capitalize on many of the lessons that we have learned farming poultry and will provide an excellent synergy to the our current chicken and sheep rotation. Shortly thereafter, it’s time for cows! We will be spending the majority of the funds we raise building a grass-fed cattle herd for beef and dairy. We are currently preparing the pastures for a herd of grass-fed cattle, so implementation requirements will include the selection of a high quality breed, purchase, and transportation to Primal Pastures. There will be a lot of work involved at first, including setting up portable fencing, irrigation, and dairy equipment. However, we are willing and ready to work hard in order to make sure our new animals will experience the same quality of life as our current animals do already.

Risks and challenges
The biggest challenges of starting a beyond organic sustainable livestock farm is just that... Getting started. We’ve made a lot of headway in building the business, and getting the land was a monumental step in the right direction. The biggest challenges following the campaign will include sourcing and transporting the new livestock onto our farm. Although we’ve learned a lot, each species presents its own specific challenges and it will take us time to learn the ropes. We are committed to delivering your rewards on time and with the highest quality possible, just like our meats.
