Hi!  It's Anthony.  Vaults and traps are now final, with Jeff's approval.  Ego weapons are now in - with an interesting side effect.

Turns out when you allow anything that can be used as a weapon to be enchanted you get some interesting/funny results!

Guarded and trapped vaults also allow for some interesting tactics.  Luring an enemy into a blitz trap, for instance.

I'm personally very happy with how the game is looking.  It's complex, it can be completed, the different classes play differently and there's some very nice emergent stuff.  We're closing in.

Addendum:  I was trying to think up some new achievements and come up with fun names for them...I thought I might create an achievement for finding a bunch of magic bags in the dungeon called "Stuff the Magic Bags In".  When I ran the name by my daughter, she groaned (which was fine) but she also said no one else would get it.  So...anyone else out there get it?

First off...

Walk in there.  I dare you.

Vaults and traps are here to spice up your dungeoneering!  Vaults range from simple, like the above trapped vault, to complex, like the spiral of death!  Traps can explode, put you to sleep, release a cloud of acid and much more!  Lure enemies into them for a very satisfying kill!

I think we've got enough in to do another beta; I'll have to get with Jeff about that.

Next should be our GUI overhaul!  Stay tuned!

My Loss is Fargoal's Gain

Hey, it's Anthony.

Friday I lost my job.

Things had gotten really hectic and I think I subconsciously knew I was fighting for my job because I focused all my attention on it and...didn't think or update about Fargoal that whole time.

But on Friday they told me that I wasn't getting stuff done fast enough for them and let me go.

Which means more time for Fargoal!  Expect more frequent updates and a quicker game release!

So Anthony.  You said the game would be done by the end of January.  Right?

Um...yes.  Yes, I did.

So...it's the 29th now.  We'll be playing the game next week, right?

Um...no.  Pretty much as soon as I said that my day job started heating and I ended up spending some long hours there.

So what's the new date?  I ask solely so that I'll know when you're going to disappoint us again.

Well...that's the thing.  I'd rather not give a date-

Yes!  It's very close!  It's just that my free time to work on it has been very spotty.  Much worse than I thought it would be.  So I'm not going to give another date to miss, but I will be posting updates here more often.  I don't want you guys to think the project is languishing (even though it is, just a little bit).  I'll also be doing another livecoding session very soon, and as soon as we get some more features in (like the new UI), we'll release another beta.

(On a more serious note, game design is really about being evil.  But not too evil.  Just evil enough.  It's a delicate balance.)
