Okay, after a fair bit of work, you should now be able to go down stairs after saving and reloading. Also, the game should no longer crash or give a "This program terminated the run-time in a funky way" error on exit. Please redownload (the link below now points to the new version) and check it out!
I didn't mean to post the betas and then go dark. This last week has been very busy for me; I've had multiple job interviews and it looks like something might be happening on that front soon (and just in time).
The savegame corruption/runtime error on exit (they are the same bug) has been giving me fits; it's obviously some kind of library incompatibility but it doesn't occur on my computer (of course) so tracking it down has been difficult. But I believe I will have something within the next couple of days.
The next most important bug is the display being cut off at the bottom on certain resolutions. I'm pretty sure I know what is wrong there (the aspect ratio isn't being calculated correctly) and it should be an easy fix once I get to it.
I just want to thank everyone who has been helping me get these worked out! You're all awesome, and I hope to have a much better version of the game for you to play very soon.
Hi there! It's Anthony, with some great news! We've released a new beta of Fargoal 2 - to you backers only, of course! You can download the beta here. Currently, only Windows is supported, but give me a few hours to recompile and test and MacOS and Linux versions will soon magically appear. Please do not share this link with non-backers! After all, they didn't back Fargoal 2...you did! You're the ones who deserve special presents!
IMPORTANT. I cannot stress this enough! If you have the previous beta (or any previous version of Fargoal 2) on your system go to your local My Program Data/Sword of Fargoal 2 folder (it may be hidden) and delete the whole thing. Yes, this means all your saves will go bye-bye; I'm sorry but Fargoal has changed too much to retain previous saves. If you do not do this, then Fargoal may fail to start!

Hi! It's Anthony. Vaults and traps are now final, with Jeff's approval. Ego weapons are now in - with an interesting side effect.
Turns out when you allow anything that can be used as a weapon to be enchanted you get some interesting/funny results!
Guarded and trapped vaults also allow for some interesting tactics. Luring an enemy into a blitz trap, for instance.
I'm personally very happy with how the game is looking. It's complex, it can be completed, the different classes play differently and there's some very nice emergent stuff. We're closing in.
Addendum: I was trying to think up some new achievements and come up with fun names for them...I thought I might create an achievement for finding a bunch of magic bags in the dungeon called "Stuff the Magic Bags In". When I ran the name by my daughter, she groaned (which was fine) but she also said no one else would get it. So...anyone else out there get it?
