This new edition of The Famous Monsters Chronicles is officially licensed and endorsed by Philip Kim and Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine. And we are proud and delighted to have Basil Gogos as our cover artist and the one and only Jim Warren, the creator and owner of Warren Publishing Company; supplying an unprecedented exclusive interview.
The Famous Monsters Chronicles is a celebration of the magazine that was an inspiration for several generations of writers, filmmakers, artists, directors, producers, publishers and an entire host of creative types.
On a personal level, I can honestly say that growing up with Famous Monsters magazine was one of my reasons for starting FantaCo Enterprises and going into publishing. It (and Jim Warren) had a MAJOR impact on my life.
The original Famous Monster Chronicles book was published in 1991. Forry Ackerman was alive and graciously signed some of our hardcover editions. Those editions now command high prices on the collectors market.
Although we never announced it as such in 1991- The Famous Monsters Chronicles was actually issue #6 in the FantaCo Chronicles Series started back in 1981. We will be making that notation in this volume as there are more Chronicles issues planned.
The editor of this book, Dennis Daniel, is a CLIO Award winning writer, actor and director of radio and television commercials. During the 1980’s and 90’s he was also an active horror journalist, writing for publications like DEEP RED, THE DEEP RED HORROR HANDBOOK, FANGORIA, GORE ZONE, FILM THREAT, FILMFAX, PSYCHOTRONIC VIDEO, FILMS IN REVIEW, THE COMICS JOURNAL AND THE COMICS BUYER’S GUIDE. He was a flesh eating “Garage Mechanic” zombie in the Tom Savini 1990 remake of NOTLD. He appears in Roy Frumkes’ seminal Romero documentary THE DEFINITIVE DOCUMENT OF THE DEAD.
Dennis has been hard at work getting ALL NEW interviews for this edition- such as the lengthy and informative interview with Tom Savini (photographed with his personal FM collection below). You will be delighted with the folks he has lined up!!
Plus for this new edition we have a very useful article on collecting Famous Monsters of Filmland magazines written by John Walter Szpunar, the author of the extremely popular Xerox Ferox book.
And of course there is the complete index to EVERY issue of the original Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine published from 1958 (#1) through 1983 (#191).
This 8 1/2" X 11" book will be over 200 pages thick (and even larger if we exceed our goal). ALL BOOKS OFFERED THROUGH THIS CAMPAIGN ARE KICKSTARTER EXCLUSIVES. They are strictly limited and designed to become treasured collector's items.
So join us in the celebration!! We are making these special edition books JUST FOR YOU!!

Risks and challenges
90% of the interviews are complete and are being transcribed. The index is complete. This means that much of what will appear in this book is ready for production at this point in time.
Our challenges are the final layout and production of the books as well as the lengthy time to print overseas and receive the books back here for shipment. The Leather-bound books are being assembled by hand in the United States and will require extra time.
Although we have estimated our delivery times accordingly- delays are always a possibility.
