Ready for instant, mobile, fantasy sports? We are!
FanDrafter offers a new, innovative approach for casual fans and diehard fantasy players to connect with one another: instant, mobile, fantasy sports! The entire app is built around the multiplayer experience, it allows you to play a fantasy football game instantly through your phone without any season commitment or previous experience. (Think: Words-With-Friends only Fantasy Football!)
Our platform leverages today's mobile connectivity to offer a new level of interactive gaming that hasn't been done before in the industry. FanDrafter has fundamentally changed the fantasy gaming experience forever.
We're here raising money on KICKSTARTER to expand our app so everyone can get a chance to play. KICKSTARTER has proven to be an amazing platform for accelerating big and small ideas alike. We want to share our passion of fantasy sports, FanDrafter, and the future of instant, mobile, fantasy sport gaming. Help us to: Challenge Everyone.
Necessity: The Mother of all inventions.
FanDrafter was born out of a frustration that the leaders in the fantasy sports industry were undeserving their consumers.
Years ago, FanDrafter CEO Alex Tamayo and a friend were in a bar bragging to each other about their fantasy football teams. Their teams had similar players and both friends played on the same site. The bragging continued until Alex said to his friend, “Hey, it’s just too bad we can’t play against each other.”. Because the two teams were in two different fantasy leagues.
Even though they both played the same game on the same site and had a few of the same players, neither of them could connect or challenge each other to a fantasy football game. The fantasy sports industry just doesn't work that way. Sites still force users to register & create leagues online before the start of the season. Users must still commit to an entire season and most leagues are ‘private’ by default, where league members can play against each other but can’t play against players or friends from other leagues and certainly not with random individuals.
We waited years (literally waited year-to-year!) for a site to offer the type of features and experiences that we and our friends could only talk about. Until last year when we got tired of waiting and released a beta version of our FanDrafter app to 50 lucky users.
“My wife, father-in-law and I would select new teams each week and all played against each other while we watched the games every Sunday, it was great!”
Mike V., Beta Tester
“For a newbie like me who never played before, FanDrafter was awesome! Easy, fun and made watching football even better!”
Jason S., Beta Tester
“I ran into a buddy of mine who sells sports cards and told him about FanDrafter. His eyes lit up when I told him that you can challenge anyone at any time.”
Zack A., Marketing Consultant
50 lucky users...
Last year, during the last 8 weeks of the 2012 NFL season, FanDrafter released a “minimum viable product” to 50 users as a beta test of our platform, successfully being the first to market with this innovative mobile fantasy sports gameplay.
The results and reactions we received from our testers were amazing. We quickly realized 2 things:
1. We all had more friends that wanted to play with us (who already had teams in other leagues & websites) than the available open spots in our already full fantasy leagues.
2. Friends who always wanted to play fantasy sports but hadn't tried it yet because of one reason or another.
FanDrafter solved both problems.
We weren’t alone in wanting the ability to play instant, mobile, fantasy sports. With FanDrafter you can have your league and freedom to play whomever, whenever and as many times you want.
FanDrafter is designed, built and tested.
We are committed to offering simply the best instant mobile fantasy gaming experience currently unavailable in the fantasy industry. It’s free to play and always will be. But while the game is free, the statistics and hosting providers needed to scale for a large audience isn’t; with your help through KICKSTARTER we won’t be stopping here.
We’re already hard at work developing a more robust version of our full platform for NFL football and over the next year we expect to accompany it with platforms for MLB, NBA, NCAA (Football & Basketball), NHL, NASCAR, PGA, SOCCER & WNBA - 9 platforms in all.
Join the development process and make your voice heard.
We had tons of fun last year playing on FanDrafter with our beta testers. But we want to give everyone the chance to play fantasy sports this way.
KICKSTARTER makes that possible.
By backing our project you have the chance to directly affect the direction and future of fantasy sports. Your voice and guidance will be critical to making FanDrafter everything we know it can be.
Started by two friends who are fantasy sports enthusiasts with backgrounds in user interface, graphic design, project management, and training development for companies within the tech industry. FanDrafter was developed by fans for fans and has support from an international development team and now we’re excited to build a product that will truly change an industry and game we have come to love so much.

Our original goal of 30K is fine. It is the bare minimum we can use to release FanDrafter for the 2013 season. But if you're like us, once Football is over, you don't just turn off the "fan in you"! Help us raise as much as we can so we can make COOLER STUFF! As we hit each goal we'll update you on our plans and (probably) release MORE REWARDS!!!! Help us change the future of fantasy sports SOONER! Help us: Challenge Everyone.
Risks and challenges
FanDrafter is designed, built and tested. Last year we wanted to test our concept of offering instant, mobile, fantasy sports; A. to see if we could do it -and- B. to see if people liked it. The smile on the faces of all our testers was our answer! We don't foresee many 'risks' for this season. The only risk we do anticipate is not raising the funds enough to support the platform for THIS season!
We've already put our blood, sweat, tears and years into this project. Last year's beta test, was just that, a test. But now we want to do more and WE NEED YOUR HELP to do so. It's not like a regular game app where you can just finish designing it and set it free, there are new overhead costs to running the platform every year: statistics, updates to the platform and hosting just to name a few.
We've already made history with last year's release, proving we know what we're doing with it and that it's wanted and needed. We've already accepted this challenge, now, help us Challenge Everyone!

That’s the best part, FanDrafter doesn’t require you to register before the start of the season. We’re planning on opening sometime after the start of the season between weeks 3-4 of the 2013 NFL season. Since we are focused on instant, one on one challenges, you can download it and start playing instant daily or weekly challenges with anyone you want the day we launch! No season long commitment or previous experience necessary!
We were pumped that everyone loved our beta version last year! Now we want everyone to have the chance to use FanDrafter. In order to get it ready for a large audience not only do we need larger server space but we have to re-subscribe to statistics providers to drive the real-time scoring, a recurring yearly overhead cost. –So share the campaign with your friends and we can get there faster!
Believe us, we hear the same thing from the guys in our fantasy league! (we’re calling you out Patrick!) Mobile apps are not universal platforms (even though it may seem that way), they have to be designed and programed to work on every platform separately. So iOS apps only work on iOS devices, and then must be re-programed to be ported (converted) into an Android platform and so on for Windows, Blackberry…
We’re a true bootstrap start-up company, an American underdog story, so when we asked ourselves what we could do with the limited budget we had 3 years ago, we only had enough to make FanDrafter for one platform, we chose the most popular platform at the time: iOS (Galaxy phones & tablets didn’t even exist 3 years ago…). In addition to also being the most restrictive platform, if we got through all the red tape that Apple makes you cut through and it was accepted and worked on iOS, porting it over to Android should be a breeze. Launching FanDrafter for Android is the top of our list for the future!
No. Every year we'd think that someone would finally "get a clue" and release something like this, and when we realized no one was thinking this way, we got tired of waiting and did it ourselves.
Last year we became the first company in the industry to launch instant, mobile, fantasy sports.
The ability to challenge a friend instantly and create daily or weekly games, draft through a mobile app and play a fantasy football game has never been done before. We are convinced that this is the next new frontier for the fantasy sports industry. We have some awesome features coming out in the next versions of FanDrafter that even existing traditional fantasy websites haven’t thought of yet!
First, let’s dispel the idea that those sites are fantasy sports websites, they aren’t – they are gambling websites and they say so right on the front page.
Only 34% of fantasy players strictly play for the sole purpose of making money. They aren’t fantasy sites really, as they don’t offer any game play customization or any premium features associated with industry leaders. Not to mention a negative gambling stigma to overcome, oh and they are all traditional websites.
We believe that mobile gaming is the future of the fantasy industry. Being able to create and challenge a friend instantly, through your phone, without registering for a website (being connected to an internet landline) or paying money to challenge a friend is the next step for fantasy sports. We’re focused on you, our users. Our goal at FanDrafter is to become the best instant, mobile, fantasy gaming platform available.
