Amaranthine Project: Avatar is about a secretive and paranoid scientist being held against his will in order to participate in a secret project by the occupying government. Their goal in holding him captive is to gain the lost alchemical wisdom of science and the soul that Dom possesses and use it not only against their enemies, but their people as well. For years Dominique has lead his captors in intellectual circles, managing to keep the most terrible of his secrets to himself, that is until the arrival of a fellow prisoner, Cristofori. This peculiar young man turns all Dom's meticulously calculated plans on their head as Dom, adapting to this new variable and convinced that Crist is not what he appears, tries desperately to figure out the young man's agenda. It isn’t long before a series of strange events forces the unlikely pair into a militant rebellious uprising and a dizzying government conspiracy that takes them on an adventure across the continent in search of answers and in pursuit of their perceived purposes.
Our comic is a character driven story that explores the ideas of trust, betrayal, friendship, love, loss, the relationships we form with each other and how they change and form the world as we perceive it.
Why We Are Here:
Amaranthine Project: Avatar started as a sort of side hobby project for our team back in high school that we did in our spare time. We worked on the pages once a week and didn’t really have any sort of plan or direction aside from what we liked about the characters. It was not a comic we planned to really get into or to endure past some free time after school and figured we’d get bored with it. However, that’s not what happened. We realized in the spontaneity of the comic (each of us in charge of a different character and how they would react on page) as we went along that we were making something far more interesting and deep than we had set out to do and we found ourselves loving the world we had created and the characters we brought to life within it. In 2008 we decided to stop and scrap the entire thing and start over from scratch. We knew what we wanted to do, where we wanted to go and wanted to make something greater than we started with.
We spent the next year in pre-production solidifying everything we needed, the script, planning out pages, books worth of concept art and sketches, walls covered in notes and plans. We were finally ready to begin. In 2009 we released the intro to the new comic to our waiting fans with really positive results. Excited about the success of the new intro and the continuing support of our readers, we were ready to continue the project come the end of collage finals.
Unfortunately, we came to realize
after we graduated that we could not afford to keep working on our comic and
the project had to be set aside due to lack of funding. Up until now,
Amaranthine Project has been completely personally funded and we just can’t
afford to do it anymore. Making ends meet, our team works an average of 12-14
hours a day doing work for other people and paying clients to pay the bills,
this leaves literally no time for us to do anything else.
Since 2009 we have been saving every scrap of money we can in order to make time for our project and we are about halfway there. After years of realizing other people’s dreams and ambitions for them, our team is itching to finish the project that made us fall in love with comics.
To this day we continue to receive a steady stream of e-mails and comments from our fans asking us to continue, we can not do it alone and we need your help.
With The Money:
With the money raised on Kickstarter, we will be able to work on our comic full time and have the pages in time for our next comic convention season. Book 1 is planned to be full colour, 8.5 x 12" and between 50 and 60 pages. The money raised here is for labor and supplies and printing for the book has already been arranged. We hope to have the first book completed in about 6 months after funding is received.
Any money exceeding the total we are looking to raise will be invested back into the comic for the production of book 2 and better rewards for the people helping us out on kickstarter. We would be thrilled for any additional help we can get, the more money the make, the further we can take this!
Brandstudio Press has set a very high bar for other companies to match in terms of quality and we have been a big fan of their products for years. Anyone who is a collector of high quality sketch, concept and illustration art books likely has a book or two of theirs in their collection.
