The Slab is Dothan, Alabama's DIY Skatespot. A place to build and bring your ideas and talents to a safe spot designated for skating. With the greenlight from the property owner, we set out to finish our skatespot. But it's so much more than that. The Slab represents a huge portion of our group's effort to advocate and promote a municipally funded Skate Park in the great city of Dothan, AL. A city rich with skateboarding history and lineage. We've gone too long without a stomping ground and this is our way of moving forward. Dothan Skatepark Initiative is here for the community, and we hope you like the direction we're headed.
Skateboarding needs a home in Dothan, and with all good homes it all starts with a solid foundation: THE SLAB.
Thank you for believing in this vision.
The following items were created and designed by local Dothan skaters. We hope you find something worthy of your pledge to help us give you more concrete ramps in return.
We started construction a few months ago. By the time you read this we've built a kicker, ledge, quarter pipe, rail, and miscellaneous assortment of goodies. Currently framing a hubba for concrete next week, and on the immediate build list to be completed by "Go Skate Day" is a large bank, hip, and one more transition to complete the flow of the slab. Fanatix, a local skater owned business, is fronting the materials for the next project, but we can't get past that finish line without your support. Pledge today!
Risks and challenges
With all construction projects there can be unseen complications with deadlines, material availability, and labor. We've come a long way and we don't plan on stopping now, but there is always a small chance for things to end up with a Plan B. If the Slab project isn't completed, the funds will go toward a public skate facility as soon as the land is allocated.
