Hello. We're Family Wagon, a rock band from San Diego.
We have spent the last few months reflecting about our connection to YOU: the people who attend shows, listen to our music, and the ones who keep us honest. Family Wagon has continued to grow and evolve over the years on the basis of your support, and after a great 2012 we are excited to announce our plans to crowd fund our next project.
Our Kickstarter project would work in two parts: a new record and the publicity of that record.
If we meet our fundraising goal, our immediate plan would be to begin recording with the help of engineers, producers, and a team of professionals that will take the production value of our songs to a higher level.
Part of our responsibility to you, the investor, is to make sure that we bring our music and live show to as many people as possible. When the record is done we'd like to invest in more promotion than we have in the past, which would involve a big publicity push and more extensive touring. Associated costs for this would include touring expenses, publicity, online and physical distribution, and other promotional outlets (i.e. print, web, radio, TV).
Although we would be absorbing many of the costs ourselves through personal funding, our budgetary needs require additional support. And so we come to you, our beloved fans, friends, and families. Our hope is that you will help this dedicated group of young music makers reach their goals.
We're offering a wide assortment of rewards (check them out in the right column). In addition to reward packages, all backers would be taken behind the scenes with us as we embark on work in the studio and on the road. You'll be given an inside look into our process with regular video and photo updates via Kickstarter.
HOW WILL I BENEFIT FROM DONATING TO FAMILY WAGON? We hope you find it rewarding to help in the advancement of the arts, collaboration, creativity, as well as furthering our budding careers as working musicians.
WHAT WOULD MY DONATION SPECIFICALLY GO TOWARD? Some of the overhead costs include studio rental fees, producer and engineer fees, transportation, post-production work, mastering, publicity, album art, print, TV, radio, and other associated needs.
WHAT ARE YOUR DISTRIBUTION PLANS? Our strategy is definitely more focused on the post-record process this time around. A higher budget would greatly strengthen our distribution efforts for more effective publicity and promotion. Initially we are planning for self-distribution so we can get the music to YOU and others. Through a more calculated and well-funded PR effort we may be able to partner with a larger distribution firm (i.e. a publicist, record label, agency, music publisher etc.)
WHAT WILL BE THE EXTENT OF YOUR TOURING? Ideally, our goal is to have national reach with this project. We would promote and tour extensively up the West Coast, through the Midwest and throughout the rest of the US.
RED FLAG REWARDS
In addition to reward bundles we've created a secondary gifts category for backers who exceed a certain amount. This can be done as a lone backer or a collective sponsor. Backers will be able to choose one option from the following list:
1) Green Room Treatment (a pre-show party with the band)
2) Gun Range Day
3) Gareth Gets a Tattoo of Your Choice
4) We Make You Dinner at Your House and Watch 'Spinal Tap'

Risks and challenges
Our past recording projects have given us a look into the challenges, risks, and expectations associated with making and putting out music. As the desire to produce better music and expand our fan base grows, so has our experience in overcoming the challenges that go along with it.
We see this project as a long-term investment and believe we have the experience and work ethic necessary to fulfill our promise to everyone who invests, maximizing every dollar spent.
Some of the challenges we have ahead include assembling the production team, budgeting for recording all the way to the release, staying on schedule, and keeping our promises to investors who want to see us finish what we start.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
