"And therefore we have sailed the seas and come..."

...not to the holy city of Byzantium. More to a city of green glass and shadowed basalt, nestled in the lee of a gallery-carved stalagmite. But that sound is the rattling of the anchor-chain. The Sunless Sea Kickstarter has dropped anchor in a safe harbour while the funding storms rage outside.

We still have just under half the funding period left. We're charting a course for the first stretch goal, the Beneath the Sunless Sea expansion. We might make it. We might...

This was a chancy voyage for Failbetter. We sunk a great many person-weeks into prototyping the game and prepping the Kickstarter - that kind of time investment is a big gamble for a small company. We hoped you'd recognise the potential in the project, and you did and more than did. This won't be the last time we say thank you, but it may be the only time we say it in upper case and bold: THANK YOU.

Now we are going to get back to building the thing, for all of us. After a small break for biscuits.

Here's a little more concept art, and a key story element uniting a number of enemies. This will be a playable vessel if we get to build the expansion - but the Irrepressible and its captain are slated to appear in the primary Sunless Sea game anyway, so you'll be able to relax and enjoy the story whatever happens next.

Okay, just once more. THANK YOU.

The Set! Merciless, mercurial, blood-soaked artistic talents of incandescent magnitude. They're something like an unholy nautical marriage of the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang and the Bloomsbury Group. The Perfidious Composer, the Pirate-Poet, the Ender of Critics, the Silent Sculptress with her knives and her tea, and the enigmatic Pianolist! Rumour has it they convene every year at an uncharted isle to co-ordinate raids, intrigues and operas.

The designs below - if our agent is to be believed - were drafted by the Pianolist to commission his underwater vessel, the 'Irrepressible'...

      This project introduced me to Fallen London, and I've already gotten a friend into it. Everyone tell a friend! There can't be enough of Failbetter's writing in our world! Zubmarines ho!

      I'm so excited that this is going to be a reality! But then, it wasn't like this could FAIL to get funded. It's too awesome for that. Congratulations, FBG! <3

      Congrats! Seeing this funded has made my day. I wish I had a surplus of rats so I could send them 'round as celebratory presents to all fellow zailors, but I've recently spent all my money on orphans. (For a good cause. Not for use as provisions.)

      Might I further add: The Set sound fascinating; Victorian ancestors of Bowie's Art Criminals, perhaps? Also: Irrigo cannon? "Source"? Breakfast-pit? And can we take it that either Through the Looking Glass was canonically published despite Fallen London's alternate timeline, or that Lewis Carroll is an ally or acquaintance of The Set?

      I wonder if the stories be true?
      Deep beneath the darkest blue?
      They say there lurk oh monsters deep,
      with claws and fangs and gnashing teeth.
      But to that place, we will boldly go,
      to find from where the darkness bellows.

      Great job, everyone at FBG! Now, TO THE DEPTHS!

      God, they shake you down the spine, don't they? Also: every possible congratters, Failbetter!

      And all should cry, 'Beware, beware!'
      His flashing eyes, his floating hair!
      Weave a circle 'round him thrice;
      And close your eyes with holy dread,
      For he on honey-dew hath fed,
      And drunk the milk of Paradise.

      To mark the occasion:

      In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
      A stately pleasure-dome decree;
      Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
      Through caverns measureless to Man,
      Down to a SUNLESS SEA!

      Though, I had no doubts as to your ability to achieve funding. This is FBG we're talking about. You're all too delicious -not- to pull something like this off.
