Hi all, I’m Chris Gardiner, Below’s lead designer and writer.
With regret, we’re going to cancel this Kickstarter - this means all pledges will be cancelled and no money will be subtracted from backers. Barring a miracle, it’s not going to reach its target. However, this isn’t the end for Below. This is a passion project for me and I’ve agreed to take it over as a separate venture from my freelance work with Failbetter. For the immediate future, Below will be my day job. A lot of work has already been put into the game, and while the economics of finishing it may not make sense for a whole company, as a (mostly) one-man show it’s more viable.
I’m deeply and personally grateful to everyone who backed this project and as a way of saying thank you I’d like offer a little something to all backers. What do these changes mean for Below?
- Below is the number 1 priority for me, and you can expect to see a release as soon as possible.
- It will be a more personal vision. Though it will continue to benefit from collaboration with talented folks from Failbetter, ultimately I’ll be answering to myself and to the game’s players.
- The game will have less bespoke art, but will still use StoryNexus’ ever-growing icon library, and will feature all the (not-insubstantial) art assets created already.
Below is the dungeon game I always wanted to play, and I’m desperate to see it finished. I hope you’ll join me down there.
