The Eyal Vilner Big Band is a 16-piece jazz orchestra playing all original arrangements of jazz standards and original compositions. Our music derives from the tradition of jazz, swing and blues, and it strives to bring our own unique voice to this beautiful art form.
In the Beginning
The Tel-Aviv jazz scene was a very special place to grow up in. Although geographically distant from the center and origins of jazz, it was a genuine and honest environment, deeply connected and devoted to the tradition of this music.
In 2007, I packed a suitcase and my saxophone and moved to New York. The following year, I established my big band and soon after we started playing at some of the finest jazz clubs in the city. In the past five years we've been preforming regularly at places such as: Smalls Jazz Club, Fat Cat, Iridium, Garage and Jazz at Lincoln Center - Dizzy’s Club. We also had the privilege to collaborate with jazz legends such as Frank Wess, Jimmy Heath, Jimmy Owens and Junior Mance.
In 2012 we released our debut album, Introducing the Eyal Vilner Big Band. The album received rave reviews and stood strong at the top jazz radio charts of the US and Canada for more than 3 months!
The Eyal Vilner Big Band includes 16 phenomenal musicians, and I feel so fortunate to have all of them in my band. They each have a unique sound and personality reflected in their playing. They are highly professional and play tightly as an ensemble, yet each of them adds his or her own perspective to the mix. It inspires me to write parts with these guys in mind and makes the big orchestra feel almost like a small band of soloists.
An exciting new feature to this album will be a vocal trio comprised of three of my favorite singers. They bring so much joy and energy to the music, you won’t be able to stand still!

The New Album
Two years after releasing our first album, and with a growing repertoire of unrecorded original arrangements and compositions, we are more ready than ever to record a new album!
We plan to record the album with the entire band together in the same room, without headphones or isolation booths. Playing everything live, we’ll capture the swinging energy and passion of a live concert while maintaining high sound quality enabled by the top-notch recording equipment of the professional Bunker Studios.
Recording an album is not cheap, let alone a 16-piece big band album! The money raised in this campaign will help fund: The musicians, recording studio, mixing, mastering, artwork and design, printing the new album and of course, making sure you’ll get your copy as well as the other rewards!
Thank you so much for your support! With your help we can make it happen!
From the Press
“Eyal Vilner's skills as a musician are unquestionable, but his talents as a composer, arranger and bandleader are what's truly on display on Introducing The Eyal Vilner Big Band, a remarkable debut recording from a group poised to take their place among the major big bands of the East. Vilner offers clever charts, excellent musicianship and an exciting new sound in the finest tradition of contemporary big band music.”
~Edward Blanco, All About Jazz NY
“With multiple lyrical lines and harmonic boundaries shattered with alarming regularity the Eyal Vilner Big Band is scoring their own arrangement that should soon have them at the pinnacle of big band success. While keeping one foot firmly in the history and a keen lyrical eye on the present, Eyal Vilner is a formidable force to be reckoned with in the big band idiom.”
~Brent Black, Critical Jazz
“(Vilner) revives a classic style of music and refines it to appeal to contemporary audiences. Vilner is all about showing beauty through music, coordinating instrument parts, layering them and integrating them into positively-charged melodies that are soothing on the ears and caressing to the soul.”

Risks and challenges
I feel very confident going into this new adventure. I've produced our debut album all by myself and took care of all the pre- and post-production processes. This experience taught me so much and I know I’m ready to face this challenge. This time, I also have the honor to work alongside Mr. Andy Farber, who will co-produce the album with me. Mr. Farber has many years of experience as a composer, arranger and big band producer.
That being said, some unexpected delays are part of life. We promise to keep our backers updated for any problems or delays that might come along and do our best to have the album ready on schedule. We can't wait to share our music with you!
