The project started with our affection for maps, thirst for world knowledge and the idea to combine both. We gathered the most intriguing, fascinating & worth remembering facts about the world and put them on a remarkable, large format map - all of it put in a calm, beautiful composition.
From a distance it appears to be an ordinary map, but after looking closer you will find on it countless curiosities, facts and trivia from which we guarantee that you won’t be able to look away. This combination of a traditional way of mapping with a modern approach to information visualization makes our product absolutely unique and different from anything you've seen before.
A deep research allowed us to identify the most interesting things about our world - some the facts we've gathered are fun, some are frightening, some are simply surprising - the common denominator for all of them is to allow the viewer to broaded his/her horizons and be inspired every day. The content includes facts about world cultures, history, economy, nature and trails of great explorers, both famous, as well as those less known to the general public.
All of these are represented by carefully selected & composed pieces of text visualized with icons, graphs and routes attributed to particular geographic areas. It will provide months of brain-bending fun and food for thought.
First transatlantic flight, Magellan's circumnavigation, Paris-Dakar race, Around the World in 80 Days... These routes and many others you can find on our map. Below you can see the outline of all of them.
We absolutely fell in love with this beautiful renaissance map which was a gift from from the admiral Claude d’Annebault to the King of France, Henry II. It is huge and filled with geographic features, facts and beautiful illustrations. Explorer's Atlas is a modern interpretation of this extraordinary idea.
Explorer’s Atlas has been created for every traveler, map lover and all those who treat life with undaunted curiosity. It inspires, sparkles your imagination about places you’ve always dreamt to visit, and reminds of some of the people and events that led us to where we are today. We guarantee that your guests will not want to walk away from it!
Our main challenge was the selection of the most interesting topics and their incorporation into the map. All the information has been placed/filled in a subtle way so as not to stand out too much and spoil the composition. We used muted colors with low contrast and fonts, guaranteeing the highest legibility at small sizes. We wanted the product to be minimal in expression, elegant, and tranquil for the perception of the viewer.
Carefully designed and printed on a beautiful, natural white, uncoated italian paper of the highest quality, Explorer’s Atlas has been created not only to be a piece of interior decoration. It constitutes a place for contemplation, sparking your imagination about places you’ve always dreamt to visit, and about reminding yourself of some of the people and events that led us to where we are today.
The project was born from our passion for maps combined with a natural curiosity. When we were kids we used to spend hours reading books about history, geography and any interesting facts. So immediately after joining these dots together, the concept came up in our minds and we realized that such a map is what we really missed in our childhood. And we want it now. So we started exploring the world. It begun with a long and deep research about everything what’s the world’s biggest, heaviest and most interesting. And there was so much interesting things about every country on our planet.
Riesgos y desafíos
We have addressed most of the challanges related with the creative process as well as with the production production plan.
When we've designed and manufactured the prototypes of our maps, we've infact worked on selecting and testing for the best supliers to make our product (the printing company, the paper distributor, the sawmill for wood production for the world map mounting) - all of it to make sure the product will beautiful and high quality.
Our greatest challange now is to meet the production quantities, reflected by our Kickstarter campaing's goal.
