This activity book series takes a fun approach to teaching History, Geography, Social Studies, Language and Art by placing them into a ‘travel’ theme. Explore Books presents different cultures, places, events, landmarks and monuments as engaging, interactive activities for kids, ages 6-12. ‘Playful Learning’ is the key.
Great for road trips & airborne travel, kids can get familiar with Europe & Asia while on the go. Engaging the kids during the trip makes for a higher quality experience and will lead to more interesting conversation and interaction. These books are appropriate for the classroom or home-school, on-the-go towards your destination, and for time well spent unplugged.
Unique in execution, the activities bring out the essence of the content, so kids will step into the moment and absorb the material better.
I’ve recently added digital interaction, which brings the activities to life through the iBook format (Best viewed on iPad).
I would like to create the next three books in the series, exploring the rich history of the Eastern United States.
To become a teacher of something, I believe you need to have experienced it yourself. To achieve this, like all the other books of the series, I have researched the area and designated the most important places of interest. My proposal is to visit all these areas, in one trip, lasting twenty-seven days: 10 August to 05 September 2014.
Upon return, I will bring this newfound wealth of experience and local knowledge together to create:
Each book will be between thirty-six and fourty-four pages and include:
To get the needed content, I need to experience the many different places and local activities. This comes at a high price. Travelling through the states is expensive, and driving during the summer peak will influence cost even more. A rental car, hotels (hostels where available) and flights will be the major costs.
Yet the rewards will be endless, not only for children around the globe and the Explore series, but also for myself (I will have seen fourty-four states!) and those of you who enable and support this epic celebration of America.
The rewards come in many different shapes and sizes, check ‘em out:
A PERSONAL THANK YOU PRINTED IN EACH BOOK
A personal thank you in the back of each book will be printed and you will be legendary. Who will read your name? Where will it travel to? They will know one thing, your pretty cool! YEA
POSTCARDS FROM THE ROAD
They will be signed and sent off with a personal message, from a random destination on the trip. What will you get?! How fun! These will also have exclusive Explore Books stamps attached. How cool is that?
SIGNED BOOKS, HOT OFF THE PRESSES!
How does a signed copy of either one or all three of the books sound? Any collector will love to have this set in their collection. How many signed books do you have? Not enough. Grab three more right here! You’ll love them as a set.
PICS FROM THE ROAD - SIGNED!
The best photos from the trip will be posted in an album on the Explore Books Facebook fanpage. Choose the one you love the most, leave your pick in the Comments tab above, and I will sign the A3 (11x17") glossy print and send it directly to you! SWEET
NEW USA SKATEBOARD DESIGNS FROM THE TRIP - SIGNED!
I create skateboards based on countries I’ve visited from around the world. I have four available at the moment based on Southeast Asian designs, and USA can be next! Skateboard designs can be really cool, but signed boards, come on, that’s AWESOME! You won’t want to ride around on these boards, you’ll want to display them on your wall. Your cool factor would go through the roof! IMAGINE!
The newest designs to choose from will be posted in an album on the Explore Books Facebook fanpage. Take your pick, and tell me in the Comments tab above, and I will sign it and send it to you. That simple.
ONE-OF-A-KIND SKETCHES FROM THE ROAD
The sketches up for grabs will be posted in an album on the Explore Books Facebook fanpage. Take your pick, and tell me in the Comments tab above, and I will sign the back of it and send it to you. So easy.
CO-CREATE AN ACTIVITY WITH ME
If you’ve got a great idea for an activity, or want to have an extra special part of this process, then co-create an activity with me! We will be in direct contact before, during and after the trip. We will come together to bring about the activity that best represents the subject you have in mind and make it all it can be! We start with a general area and then do the on location research and communicate the findings. When back in the studio, we’ll create a unique together that will go into one of the books and you will have a credit in the book. NOW THATS COOL.
A PERSONAL VISIT
After this is all said and done, there’s going to be one last stop to make on the journey to this lucky backer. I will come with gifts aplenty from the road, signed rewards of your choice and with all the stories and fun tales and pictures to show from an outstanding journey through America. We will relive the best and worse of times and you will be amazed by the things that will have occurred. I can’t wait to share all this! Sounds like a great ’ol time to me! Let’s dance!
Challenge: Not feeling rushed. I’ve budgeted a flexible final departure ticket so the end of the trip can be extended (maximum 7 days) if needed, granting more flexibility if needed.
Challenge: Taking a wrong turn at Albuquerque. Rental cars in the US come equipped with GPS as does my smart phone, so I’m covered. If disaster strikes, I can always look up to the sun or navigate via the stars also, the way we did in Laos, so bring it on ;-)
Challenge: Accidents can happen. Much of the trip will take place through some very remote places and driving will be avoided in New York City, the subway system there will save significant capital, avoiding parking and car rental fees. Between the coverage for the rental car and travel insurance for myself and my belongings, there will be little to worry about.
Challenge: Road Fatigue. My body is built for long haul driving, hiking, museum tours and the like. For intense travel, I am tried and true, and get loads of energy from being in the air and on the road. :D
Challenge: Producing three books and reward delivery. This is the fun part. I am working on this project full-time, so this has 100% of my attention. I have been designing for more than a decade and working within this concept for most of that time.
I Produce. I’ve never missed a deadline in my design career.
I generally work twelve to fourteen hour days, depending on the workload, happily going about my creative day, achieving results with a smile.
I will provide progress reports, keeping you up to speed the entire way! With your investment and subsequent support, I know we will do it! Together with your feedback and encouragement, we will finish strong providing you and the kids the best quality books and rewards possible!
Let’s do this! Hallelujah!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
How’s this work exactly?
I have a worthwhile yet expensive project that needs funding. Kickstarter gives me the global platform to raise awareness and the funds with the best (secure) crowdfunding website on the planet.
I will be sending out updates through the campaign page giving project highlights and special news. If it get’s funded, then I will continue to leave project updates from the road and back at the studio. Check out the Updates tab above.
This campaign will only run 30 days. It’s all-or-nothing funding, so do or die. If I reach my goal, (hallelujah) then I get the money after 14 days and can begin the project (buying flights, reserving the rental car, entrance tickets, etc… ). If I miss the target by €1, the project is dead. All the money raised stays in the pockets of the potential supporters / backers. Then it’s back to the drawing board. = Lose Lose :( Don’t let that happen! And NO, I cannot fund my own campaign ;-)
How can I help?
Watch the movie. Read the description. Get involved by sharing this on your social media pages. Email the link to your friends. Connect to Explore Books on social media. Share the updates. And finally, when your ready to join in, click Back this project above and grab some of the exclusive rewards YEA!
Choose the reward level that best suits your wants and financial capability. If nothing is of interest to you, yet you want to support the project, choose any amount plus ‘no reward’ at pledge stage. Any questions, ask away in the Comments tab above.
I will be sending out all the reward deliverables to you once they’re ready. If your looking for signed artwork, they will first deliver to me and then to you. This will add some time for delivery. For photos, make your selection from the albums on the Explore Books Facebook fanpage (/explorebks) and tell me in the Comments tab above. I will keep great records and double-check before sending. Any unforeseen delays will be communicated through the Updates tab (hopefully none).
Kickstarter is connected with Amazon payments, so it’s secure. Works with MOST major credit cards and Paypal. [Sorry no Discover]
You will have to create an account on Kickstarter first, then you can back the project. You’ll receive an email towards the end of the campaign when time is running out and when it’s reached the goal. :) When it’s successful, you’ll receive an email from Amazon Payments saying they billed your credit card/paypal the amount you’ve chosen. Shortly after, another email will arrive confirming the payment went through. DONE & DONE.

Thanks for the support and let’s make this happen!
I sure can! Kickstarter will convert any currency into Euros automatically. The US to Euro equivalent is approx. $1.30 to €1 at the start of the campaign (03 june 14).
The reward levels were built for USD conversion. Rough translations:
€36 = $50, €75 = $100, €180 = $250 and so on...
But to be sure, check out www.xe.com for your countries currency and pledge level. It’s the online standard.
Four weeks is enough to get the job done. I also have an eight year old son at home, so it's the longest I feel comfortable going without him. Next time he will come with me on these epic journeys. (USA West or OZ? :)
Also, this east coast trip is quite intense and fast-paced. So it’s better left to the travel professionals ;-)
