Pirates of New Horizons is a 3D Action Platformer about looting, pillaging and a flying cat. It allows you to explore an epic adventure tailored for a snack-sized mobile game experience on your iOS or Android device.
If you decide not to back the game we would very much appreciate if you take a minute to provide us some feedback in this survey.
There is also a free way to back us by showing your support via Facebook or Twitter by using the links in this Thunderclap.
The Game For Anyone Who Ever Wanted To Be A Sky Pirate -Kotaku.
To give a brief intro to the game, here is what we are aiming for:
- Platformer elements of Mario
- Humor of Monkey Island
- Combat from God of War
- Art of Zelda
Pirates of New Horizons combines the magic of those games into a gameplay based around three pillars: Explore, loot and fight!
Your personal game character is the young pirate girl Annha, whose destiny has brought her into a life based on a never-ending adventure. She is assisted by the flying cat Professor Henceworth, and is equipped with spaced out gadgets such as grappling hooks and jet packs. With exploration being a core focus, there is an unique PIRATE (Probably Incredible Remarkable Adventure Tailored Experience) system in place which through procedural methods provides for an ever-changing world.
We already have a polished prototype/preview version running on PC and a functional prototype working on mobile. All images used here are from the PC version and rendered in-game. This level of graphics will only be enabled on high end mobile devices, but rest assured that the game will scale to lower end devices also.
Our goal is for all areas of the game to reflect the passion we put into it. This can be summed up as our ambition to create the game with the highest 'Love Per Pixel Ratio'.
Embark on a swashbucklin' cruise on your flying pirate ship!
Explore foreign planets for gold and precious stones!
Meet the feline professor "Henceworth" and other peculiar characters that can help you on your campaign!
Fight against robots, alien pirates and other dangerous creatures!
Go to town, spend your loot on upgrades, activate the lighthouses and discover secrets!
Use your inventory of spaced out gadgets to plunder the treasure vaults of New Horizons!
Will you be able to collect enough treasure to buy your dream mansion and retire?
The player steps into the shoes of the pirate girl "Annha". Having spent most of her childhood on board of a pirate ship, her acrobatic skills are only surpassed by her kleptomaniac tendencies. After her crew mates are captured, she embarks on a piratical cruise on her own, to become the richest pirate in the universe. On her journey she meets a genius but very eccentric cat, quite upset aliens and dozens of menacing robots that guard the treasures of New Horizons. Determined, self-reliant, but also fairly oblivious to the dramatic events that surround her, Annha has to find out that her personal fate and that of the rest of the universe is much more intertwined than she really likes.
Pirates of New horizons is coming to live with the help of a bunch of passionate game developers and creative minded people. Most of us are placed in Denmark and others in US, Germany and Italy. We're a band of both highly experienced developers with years of triple-A experience from studios such as IO Interactive and Blizzard, mixed up with fresh talent still in university. Previously the team members have worked on everything from blockbuster platformer Mini Ninjas to indie hit Beatbuddy.
Also helping out are Marc Pilgaard, Kenneth Berle, Cosmin Plesa, Joakim Engfors, and Marco Martellato. Together we call us Exit Strategy Entertainment. We have been working on the project for the past three years in a mix of spare time and full time dedication. Our bounds across borders are held together through our common belief in Pirates of new Horizons. Together we are using our knowledge of game design, our different work experience and years of gaming to create this mobile game, which is going to be amazing!
We are always looking for interesting talents to help make Pirates of new Horizons a kickass game. If you are experienced with Unity and good at getting things done, then we will like to hear from you.
We are building the game in Unity3d which allows us to release on both iOS and Android. We also plan to support tablets. You will receive a direct store link and activation code on your mail when the game is ready to be released. Retail price is not entirely determined yet but you can be sure that backing here on Kickstarter is the cheapest way to get the game!
Alpha team members will get access to builds in December.
People with early access will get access to builds primo January.
First public release will happen late January.
If you bought your smartphone or tablet within the past couple of years it should be able to run the game. Details below.
iOS: iPhone 4s or iPad 2.
Android: 1Ghz dual core, 512MB ram, and Android 4.0.
The game might look pretty far along already, so why do we need your help? Currently all work on the project is being done in our spare time. Being funded here via Kickstarter would allow us to take on the project full time and also hire in some more crew members. Creating a computer game involves lots of areas meaning that we need money for the creation of code, 3d models, interface graphics, textures, animations, and level design.
10,000$ is our funding goal as that is how much it would take to complete a fun edition of the game. Any funding beyond that will help create an even better, bigger and more polished experience. We have detailed plans and ideas enough to make use of more than ten times the funding goal, should this become possible. So make sure to encourage your friends to back the project also!
15,000$: Online leaderboards allowing you to share your progress and high scores with your friends.
20,000$: Character customisation giving you the option to create an outfit for Annha that you like.
25,000$: We will create a video documentary which will bring you even more detail on our the game development process for the game.
50,000$: PC Edition! While Unity would take care of the technical parts of a PC edition, the game would still need a lot of work to get the interface to shine as much as on mobile.
The development proces of Pirates of New Horizons as a mobile game is still connected with a lot of forthcoming work, especially in the area of coding. Since the originally plan was to develop Pirates of New Horizons as a PC/consol game we have a good bunch of code and assets already, together with a solid preview of the game running on PC/Mac which is publicly available at our website www.piratesofnewhorizons.com.
Having a working preview has also given us as a great way to experiment with the game and to figure out what works. While we made it far with the PC version, it is still very far from finished and it would be a massive task to finish it. We found that a better way to to bring you Pirates of New Horizons would be as a smaller scoped game for mobile devices.
In order to create a mobile version of the game we do not want to just mindlessly port anything from the PC edition. This means that all areas of the game will need more or less reworking. Our levels and graphics are highly optimized (we even worked with Intel in the past to showcase how nice graphics one could get out of crappy integrated graphics cards) so these carry over well to mobile.
On most other fronts there will be lots of work needed though to really create the exceptional experience we want to give you. Currently our focus is on prototyping of controls and mechanics on mobile in order to find the ones that provide maximum fun on a minimal device.
We believe in involving the community closely in our productions and take great pride in keeping you updated on the development. We will do regular updates here on Kickstarter and you are also encouraged to follow us on Facebook, Twitter & YouTube.
Please help spread the word about us!

For our first mobile game, Pirates of New Horizons: Planet Buster, we also received excellent reviews showcasing our ability to deliver top quality on mobile devices:
- "It's easily one of the most gorgeous matching games we've ever seen for iOS ... we can't recommend Planet Buster enough." -The iPhone App Review
- "By and large, Planet Buster is incredibly well done. It looks and sounds great, the gameplay is addictive and fast-paced, and the general setting is charmingly ridiculous. Pick this up: You won't be sorry you did." -Gamezebo
Risks and challenges
Developing computer games is always a complex task with lots of risks involved. We do however have a very experienced team in place who have shipped lots of successful games.
We are painfully aware of our history with the yet unfinished PC/Mac/Console edition of Pirates of New Horizons and with this project everything from scope to development strategy is done well knowing, that this time the game has to ship. On the mobile front, we do have the experience from our Planet Buster title where we learned a lot about how to deliver for mobile devices.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
