About

Who is Exalt Band?

We're a bunch of singers, musicians, songwriters and mates who come together every year or two from a variety of churches for the Exalt Music Ministry Conference in Perth, Western Australia. We get our kicks out of hearing God's people sing.

This year's lineup includes Tenielle Neda, Carmel Bain, Ben Chaine (vocals), Dan Conway (vocals, guitar), Liz Gordon (keys, cello), Scott Robinson (guitars), Calvin Webb (drums and production) and James Newhouse (guitars and production).

Why do you want to record this album?

We're really encouraged by the blessing that the songs on our album "Empty Hands" have been to individuals and churches. So much so, that people have been asking when the next one will be! It's taken us five years, but we think we're finally ready...

Will this album be like the last one?

We're still completely committed to writing the kind of songs that we would also choose for our churches to sing. Songs with theological depth and powerful language. Songs that engage the emotions. Songs with appealing and memorable melodies. Songs that are easily reproducible in the average church. Songs that bring glory to Jesus.

This time, we're focusing specifically on songs that draw us together as the people of God, and that focus on our identity and life together as a church. Those of you who choose songs to sing in church may have noticed a gap in these themes in mainstream Christian worship music.

We've still got our regular writers Liz Gordon and Scott Robinson, plus some fabulous new writers and artists, Tenielle Neda, Tobin Powell and Dan Conway. And we'll produce the record again with James Newhouse, who is a WAMI award winning sound engineer.

Where can I listen/check you out?

The song you can hear on the video is "Come You Thirsty" by Liz Gordon from our last album. You can listen to the whole album on spotify or itunes or bandcamp.

You can listen to Tenielle Neda's music (also produced by James Newhouse) here.

You can listen to Dan Conway's music here.

You can check out the Exalt Conference here, where you can also download the lead sheets from the Empty Hands album.

And feel free to shoot through any questions in the comments, FAQ or bio sections.

Why Kickstarter?

Because music is now generally accessed and distributed for free, it's difficult for musicians to get the funds to record their music. But there's still a significant number of people out there who are willing to invest small or big amounts in projects that they believe in and can benefit from. Kickstarter gives them a safe and reliable way to do that.

It's a slightly risky project for us, in that if we don't reach our target by the deadline, then we don't get any of the funds. But that makes it less risky for you, because you know that your money won't be going to a project that doesn't eventuate.

Plus, we need to know that there are people out there who want to hear and sing our songs. The project isn't worth doing otherwise.

How will the $7,000 be used?

While it's true you could make an album on your laptop for less, it won't sound good. There are some things that are best left to the experts. It's right to pay people properly for the work that they do, and we all get much better music as a result. Most of the funds will be used to hire the studio, producer/engineer and masterer, with a little extra for things like CD pressing, postage and graphics.

As an aside, $7,000 is the absolute minimum we will need. If we get more than that we will be able to spend more time on it, add a couple of extra songs*, and it will sound better. It will also help us to spread our music a bit wider. So we'd still love you to pledge even if the target has already been reached!

*If we reach our target, we should be able to record an album of 6-8 songs. If we get more funds than the target, we hope to produce a full album of 10 songs.

What's in it for me?

Look to the column on the right. You can choose a digital download, a physical CD or a bigger investment, that's totally up to you! Every reward also comes with access to all the lead sheets for use in churches.

More importantly though, it's our prayer that these songs will be a great blessing to the church in Perth and beyond, so that Jesus will be glorified in his people. We think that's a truly worthwhile thing to be part of.

Risks and challenges

We've booked the studio for our first stint of recording, and if we reach beyond our target, we'll book some more studio time around September. That will give us plenty of time to get the songs mixed and mastered and the CDs pressed and sent by November (or before) when we plan to release the record. We're pretty sure we can reach our target - which is less than our last project - but if you want to check anything out before pledging, feel free to get in touch.
