What is a Meeple? In physical terminology, a Meeple is a playing piece for table top games such as Carcassonne, Settlers of Catan, Dungeons and Dragons and more. The Meeple is also a representation of the entire gaming community! My love of board games has led me to start designing, laser cutting, and painting my own meeples in hopes to share them with my fellow board game lovers and hobbyists. There has been a lot of trial and error involved in the process so far. I have spent quite a bit of money on paint and acrylic. 3/8" acrylic is rare and very expensive. Depending on the color, the cost is almost always over $100 for a 12"x12" piece. I choose to use 3/8" because it is the closest width to the classic people size you can get when working with acrylic. Eventually I would love to experiment with other mediums, such as wood or felt. I have created an Etsy shop to promote and sell my Meeples, it is called Evil Meeple. I am asking for $60 dollars to help cover the cost of a small piece of acrylic needed to produce my Meeples. I want to order metallic silver (for the aliens), smokey black (for the skateboarders), and green (for the ogres). Thank you in advance for your support for me and the table top community. I hope my Meeples will some day be in the hands of every game board novice out there :)
Risks and challenges
Board gaming is a niche hobby, but those who play these games regularly are usually very passionate about their hobby. There are many gamers that are collectors who I'm sure would love to have their own custom set of Meeples to play with, I know I would! I am hoping to spread the word through board game forums, word of mouth, and perhaps social media!
I have already produced about 50 sets of different Meeples and I have more ideas, but little resources.
