Last Update of the Year: Address Lockdown Coming, Timeline Update, Prototype Development History

December! Almost gone and I've yet to update. Forgive me!

The Backerkit Lockdown is Nigh!

Rather than the usual back and forth, let me get to the vitals right away:

  • We will lock down the addresses in BackerKit in January. The more we dig into the logistics of delivering 9000 games around the world, the more it's clear we need to lock things into a final form so we can get the ball rolling soon as possible when the games arrive. So expect us to lock things down (which I believe prevents further address changes, additions, etc) a few days into January.
  • This will cause pending charges to hit your cards, so be ready for that, and don't fret if the charge "bounces", you'll be given a chance to correct or update things when that happens.
  • This also means you need to get your address correct if it's not already for a stable delivery location in the February/March/April zone. If your address won't be stable during that timeframe, consider asking a family member, friend, or workplace to receive the package for you.
  • The address you gave here on Kickstarter doesn't count. Only the one given in BackerKit will be used.
  • If you're not sure you've taken care of business in BackerKit, you can find the BackerKit for this project herehttps://the-dresden-files-cooperative-card-game.backerkit.com/ (238 of you have as yet to respond at all)
  • If you're having trouble logging into the BackerKit linked above, contact us via Kickstarter's private messaging system (which will help us make sure we've got the right backer data to look you up by) and let us know, we'll do what we can to help.

Timeline Looking Good!

We've made our final payments for art and manufacture and the manufacture is well underway, with a delivery timeframe that looks favorable for us getting the ship-out effort started (but almost certainly not concluded) in February, which puts us reasonably on track for our March-ish estimated delivery timeframe we put on those reward tiers early in the year. Deadlines: they're actually supposed to mean something!

Some of  you may have heard a different message elsewhere, about the games shipping in May or June — the release target for us to put the game out into the world for the general public. That is not the release date for backers. As backers, the folks who made this game as big and beautiful and possible as you did, you get first crack, and that's why your delivery timeframe is set a couple months earlier (March).  If we felt like it was "the right thing" to release the game to the general public at the same time as we were starting to ship your stuff, we'd make a case for that, but we don't think that's the right thing. So you get yours first (assuming the shipping gods smile upon thee).

This includes the retailer-backers who lent their support during the Kickstarter, so it doesn't mean the games won't show up on shelves at all prior to May/June — it just means that when they do, it's because a store put some of their hard-earned treasure towards our project when the didn't have to, and we're delighted to give them a chance to take advantage of that with their in-store customers. Any follow-up orders they place with their distributors, however, will be beholden to the May/June general release, but additions to their BackerKit order before the lockdown count as backer-shipment orders.

Prototype History Revealed!

After each major game design project, Eric Vogel (designer of DFCO) likes to write up an overview of the history of the development of the game. These extensive write-ups can be a real treat for getting into the details and thoughts and discarded/kept ideas that add up to a final game design.

You can grab the 10-page PDF of this here, for some deep-nerd reading over the holidays: http://www.evilhat.com/home/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/The-Dresden-Files-Cooperative-Card-Game-Prototype-History.pdf

Any Playtesting? Let Us Know!

As a reminder, our November Update spoke of some playtestable Kincaid, Mortimer, and Ghost Story decks. I could really use your feedback on these, so if you are willing to sink some time and papercraft into testing them out it'd be a help. You can find the November Update here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/evilhat/the-dresden-files-cooperative-card-game/posts/1738166

And a Monster-Sized Footnote...

A few of you preordered the Kaiju Incorporated RPG in BackerKit. We've sent the book off to press this week, so I'll be working on figuring out how to deliver you the PDF of the book in BackerKit soon. (There's still time to add a copy to your order, before the lockdown!)

Thanks for a Great Year!

Thanks again, and always, for your support in making this game possible. We absolutely couldn't have done it without you. And stay tuned for a January update in a few weeks when the Lockdown is nigh-er!

You're the best. :) Happy holidays!

Tricked Ya!

Hmph! Well, aren't you a treat? At least you're on-theme for the month.

And I suppose you were preempting my usual antics so I'd get to the point faster. I dunno tho, I think you were supposed to light a fire under my ass instead of the other way arou—

OW!

OKAY OKAY YOU'RE THE WIZARD! YOU'RE THE WIZARD! UPDATING NOW!

Where We At?

Lots of progress! I've gone through almost the entirety of proof approvals and design with the manufacturer for the core set. That covers the box, the insert, the dice, the cards, the board — all of that.

I caught a few things worth correcting (I put the wrong showdown on the Grave Peril deck's showdown card, we decided to go with a less visually noisy version of the box image for what 'peeks through' on the game board, and adjusted the token count for the fate point tokens when it turned out the manufacturer was supplying too many of them), as is normal for this process.

The result's looking pretty swank.

So that's trucking along nicely. Since the core set has so many more moving parts than the expansions do, it made sense to us to get the ball rolling on that part as soon as the necessary art updates were done, and push the expansions into manufacture later on, after the core set's kinks are ironed out and Tyler Walpole's had time to get the expanded art supply for the three expansions done, too.

Tyler is getting real close, tho. Here are a few samples of the work he's been turning in these last few days.

All of which to say is, everything that we said was on track remains on track. No hiccups yet, fingers crossed. :)

BackerKit has been going well too: we've gotten over 8000 responses, and have less than 600 left to receive. If you have not filled out your BackerKit information yet, please do so soon as you can. Having as close to a complete picture as possible is a huge boon for us in terms of planning the shipping operation well — even if all you're doing in the BackerKit is confirming that you're staying digital and are not going to have a shipment.

Bottom line, backers who haven't responded to BackerKit are variables, and variables are what we're trying to pin down during the long steady run between end of campaign and beginning of shipment. :)

At any rate, that's it for this month's update. I hope to have some fun stuff for you to explore come November... maybe even a sneak peek at further expansions we have in development, and an opportunity to playtest a few of the decks...?

We'll see. ;)

Stay tuned, and thank you as always for your support!
