DFCO Is On Steam and Mac, Now! Plus a Ghostly Teaser From The Future...

It's Halloween, and that means it's launch day for the desktop version of the DFCO app!

On Steam:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/661280/Dresden_Files_Cooperative_Card_Game/

On the Mac App Store:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dresden-files-co-op-card-game/id1249868527?mt=12

(Mobile versions, for both iOS and Android, continue to be in the works as mentioned in our last update, and are coming soon. They're just delayed because mobile apps pose some additional challenges that need to get sorted out before those versions, too, can be released.)

I have a problem: [Any customer service issue at all having to do with the app]

100% of these sorts of messages need to be sent by email to support@hiddenachievement.com — Evil Hat can't work any customer service issues having to do with the app, since we're not the publisher of the app: that's Hidden Achievement.

Leaving comments here on the Kickstarter has no guarantee of consistently reaching Hidden Achievement in a timely fashion either; we welcome your conversation, but if you need help with the app or registering your keys for across-all-platforms free access to the expansions, send that email!

Where's the best place to chat about the app?

That'd be over on the Hidden Achievement forum! (Sensing a theme here...)

https://forums.hiddenachievement.com/topic/40/the-dresden-files-cooperative-card-game-is-now-available

If I play the app, should I leave a review?

Emphatically yes. Especially for small developers and niche apps like this one, reviews are a make-or-break crucial component of success.

Where's the Ra Deck?

Given that Ra is from a separate intellectual property (Greater Than Games' most excellent Sentinels of the Multiverse) and that that game is already licensed to another app developer (Handelabra), we felt it was better to focus on the primary IP covered by the game (Dresden Files) and avoid any potential IP conflicts around that outlier, promotional deck within the electronic rights space. So, for now, and maybe for good, no Ra. Apologies! You'll have to content yourself with the other canonical 12 decks you'll have available in the game.

But otherwise all the other decks are there, especially once you redeem your keys!

Speaking of the Board Game, Any News About Future Expansions?

Yes.

News?

Yes, there is some.

Fred. Fred.

Couldn't resist, sorry.

Anyway: Yes! We've been working over the past half-a-year-or-so on expansions 4 and 5, which will cover from Changes up through Skin Game, and feature Kincaid, Mortimer, and two alternative Wintery versions of existing character decks. Playtesting has by and large concluded and art is underway. We've got an eye on releasing these for sale around the middle of 2018, so stay tuned this Summer.

I'm particularly excited about these expansions because I got to work heavily on expansion 4, drafting the decks for Kincaid, Mortimer, and Ghost Story. Probably my favorite card out of all of those is the Soul Train, an Obstacle that marches down the board as you play and makes you lose the game if it reaches Range 1 at a bad time. Couldn't resist a spot of mischief, there. Tho the cruel things I do to Harry's player in the Ghost Story deck are a hoot, too. Like Jim and Eric, I also delight in your tears.

With that in mind, let me conclude this post with a look at some of the art we've got coming in from Tyler Walpole (whose Blood of Dragons Kickstarter is in its final 24 hours now — if you haven't checked it out, today's the day)!

Copying and pasting a response to this question from the comments of our other recent update:

The app itself was never going to be offered free on any platform. If folks review the text from the stretch goal announcement in May 2016, it was made clear then: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/evilhat/the-dresden-files-cooperative-card-game/posts/1574576

What the stretch goal unlocked was free expansions in the app.

Pardon for asking a stupid question, but I haven't been following this closely. Are the codes just for the expansions, or is the base game included (because we are KS backers)?

    3. Adam Krump on

Will the later-on sets have an electronic version as well? Maybe like a key in the physical Dresden Files Expansion boxes?

Cool thing then. It will give me a reason to lurk in that brick-and-store thing I keep hearing about.

And good work on the art! I do not recognize the first one (the duel at the Goblins King banquet?) but they all seem to be as good if not better than the first expansions.

At present we're not expecting to Kickstart expansions 4 & 5. Could always change, but not expecting it to.

Will the new expansions be available on KS before or will they go directly into retail?

To confirm what Fred said, The Mac App Store pricing tier that is $19.99 for the US is also being priced at £19.99 in the UK, with the discounted rate dropping it to the $16.99 / £16.99 tier. You can also get the game for £14.99 (when it's at full price) on Steam, with the discount applied for the first week bringing it to £12.75.

That's our fault for not looking more closely at the prices in other countries on those pricing tiers. That still wouldn't have changed the resulting price, but it would have changed how we announced it so it wasn't a surprise.

That same pricing system is also in effect for iOS apps, so you can expect the price in GBP to be the same number as in USD when that releases.

@Paul: Email support@hiddenachievement.com as directed above. (I believe the mac store pricing in the UK is inflated because Apple is very stupid about how it prices stuff for the UK, but you should get that from the authoritative source.)

@Travis: All codes were emailed out October 23rd or so.

FOR ANYONE STILL LOOKING FOR THE CODES WE EMAILED:

Two paths to get access to them:

      1) Log into https://the-dresden-files-cooperative-card-game.backerkit.com/ and check for your available digital downloads, the codes are there;

      2) If that doesn't work, contact us here on Kickstarter via private message (not public comment) if you're having trouble accessing BackerKit.

While I am most definitely excited about the Steam game, and all future expansions, I'm a bit disappointed by Ra not being in the Steam game (I understand the issues! and am not complaining, just a bit sad)

I’m a bit confused about the pricing here in the UK. The announcement said that it would be £14.99 but it’s coming up in the Macstore on my computer as £16.99. The update also said there would be a first week discount. Is that still happening?

WHere should I inquire about backer keys? I've not received an e-mail from Backer Kit yet.

I don't know how to answer the Ghost Story question because for me the book was all good. :)

Looking forward to the "Wintery" alternative decks and how those will play out. Kincaid and Mortimer are going to be interesting for sure. Fred, was Ghost Story easier to adapt then it was to read? Good book but difficult to get through because the tone was just off and awkward.

@Tegre - Some contracts specify things like exclusive rights to an IP (e.g., Sentinels of the Multiverse) within a given application of that IP (e.g., Electronic Games). If Handelabra had such rights and we just went and put a SOTM character out in an electronic games context it could cause a breach of contract situation for GTG & Handelabra. I don't know that this is or isn't the case, but because it could be, and because of the additional complexities it would introduce as far as royalties go (increasing the number of licensors involved to 3), we set it aside as a low priority.

I am confused. The character Ra is an IP belonging to the company Greater Than Games not Handlelabra. While Handlelabra did create the video game conversion of the card game of the same name, how would putting a character from the parent company cause an IP issue? Or is this a cost thing that isn't being mentioned. Normally I am a bit more forgiving, but considering Evil Hat is using an IP that is being licensed to them, (the Dresden Files) I feel a little bit more clarity is in order. Oh and I also like the character Ra.

@Elliot Zahtz - It's a composite image, since obstacle images get used on multiple cards it had to serve both "Blood Curse" and "Harry's Injuries" in that deck. So you've got the Red King's upraised arm with the sacrificial knife and the blood-splattered wall backdrop of Chichen Itza, as well as Harry lying broken on the ground outside of his burning apartment. The fact that the Red King's arm is clearly not on the same proportion/scale as Harry is meant to cue the realization that this is two scenes; I asked Tyler to make it look like the knife from the sacrifice scene was poised above Harry from the broken spine scene, and this was the happy result.

I've been staring at the first picture, the one with the giant knife, and I can't figure it out. Is Harry on the floor or the wall? Where is the arm that is holding the huge knife come from?

Please help! Tyler, you're so good at capturing this stuff; keep up the great work! :)
