"Ow! Ow! It hurts to be this good!"

So I announced the second expansion this morning (less than twelve hours ago) and thought, heyyy, that's got me covered for the day. There's no way these guys are gonna keep it going strong enough to hit this goal before I turn in for the evening, so I'm in the clear until Thursday!

Man, do I love being wrong.

Pricing II: The Clarifying

I've been asked this several times now, so I'm sure I keep goofing it up somehow. :) Let's try again:

Each expansion (you've funded two of them so far) is priced at $10. That's $10 for the first expansion, and $10 for the second. (It's not $10 for each deck in each expansion, and it's not $10 to get both of them.)

We're about to announce a third one. The third one will be priced at $10 as well! And to make things super clear, shortly I'll put up two new reward tiers that you can jump to if you're interested in getting the core game + all three expansions. (Seems pretty likely y'all are gonna push just as hard for that third one as the second — normally I'd wait to offer such a tier until the third's funded, but I think you'll all feel better having a nice clearly priced reward tier to select!)

My body is ready. What's next?!

This third expansion will be the last expansion we have planned for this Kickstarter and once funded will complete the set of stretch goals called the circle of essentials. We'll then start on a new stretch goal circle, the circle of gratitude, where we work on doing a bunch of stuff for you, our lovely fund-makers, as a way of making things more awesome for you.

Retailer backers, rest assured, if you have a customer preordering the game through you as a part of your store's pledge, we'll make sure you can convey circle of gratitude benefits to your preordering customers too, one for each copy of the core game you're getting. We're grateful for you as well, after all!

Speaking of the circle of gratitude, here's what it looks like now.

I kicked in to a burning ring of fire / went down down down / and the funds kept going higher
I kicked in to a burning ring of fire / went down down down / and the funds kept going higher

!!!

I know! Right? That's a LOT of fire!

But Also: !!!!!!!!!

Yes! The Wardens are coming, the Wardens are coming — our third and final expansion (for this campaign) is the WARDENS ATTACK expansion!

"Everyone else who lets me ride on their dinosaur calls me Carlos."
"Everyone else who lets me ride on their dinosaur calls me Carlos."

This brings us up to books 10 and 11 — Small Favor and Turn Coat, maximizing your options for play and offering new ways to ensnare and complicate your heroes' lives. But the real stars of this expansion are the two new player decks, Wardens both: Regional Commander Carlos Ramirez and Captain Anastasia Luccio herself!

Anastasia Luccio's deck is all about strategic plays and decisive moves. Overall her deck is focused most strongly on taking on the challenges that decide your ultimate win-or-lose fate, and nowhere is that more apparent than with her two "on the table" cards. Use her Captain of the Wardens talent to go after the toughest challenges you face, whether they're Case or Foe. Flip her stunt to Focus Our Efforts! from one Case or a Foe to another, maximizing your chances of clearing them off the board.

And as you might expect, Carlos Ramirez's deck is just plain swashbuckling fun, at its best when he's taking on Foes or clearing Obstacles. On the battlefield, a Young Hotshot Warden like Ramirez knows that knowledge is power; his Talent lets you remove a Clue from a Case to land two Hits on an injured Foe. And as a Warden, Carlos has always Got Your Back, using his stunt to allow an ally to reclaim a card from their discard, letting the team deploy its greatest strengths a second time.

Let's Do This!

I couldn't agree more. Thank you all SO MUCH for an incredible first two days! I can't wait for you to reach this next goal, so we can begin the circle of gratitude because, man, I am feeling really flippin' grateful right about now. All of us are, here at the Hat.

So, thank you, Paranetters. You're the best there are. Onward, to $162k!

Praise be! Praise be!

Even though I really love Carlos in the books, I couldn't help but have my first thought upon seeing the third expansion be:

      "Fred! Mouse?!"

Here's to hoping the shaggy beast still gets to squeeze in here somehow. After all, dogs are pretty... grateful beasts?

Just wanted to say thanks, Fred. This game looks great and while the internet may not be the easiest place for the message to come out, there are a lot of us who appreciate all the work you're doing here. I've backed and have passed it along to half a dozen other people who, hopefully, will as well.

Thank you so much for making a pledge level with all 3 expansions. Too many KS have a core level and then all these add-ons that are hard to keep track of. This makes it very easy to see months down the road what it is I'll be getting.

Actually I said the opposite; I said we couldn't do any further pay products for the game w/o checking with licensing. Folks won't need to pay to get the benefits of the circle of gratitude, aside from hitting the stretches on a projectwide basis.

    8. Jabsloth on

Yeah, buying the game on Kickstarter doesn't help brick and mortar stores either, so that isn't a great argument.

You may think you've been clear, but you haven't. Hence these comments. You've said that you feel you are unable to give anything away for free or you will lose your license. This says to me any future stretch goals will also cost extra money.

Yes, it's clear how it's truly held back 3000 people from pledging.

@EvilHat, I appreciate that you have planned future items to reveal later, but saying "We've got mysterious goodies coming, promise!" isn't quite the same as clearly stating up front what advantages the backers are getting for pledging vs. waiting for retail. I just hope you understand what a big leap of faith you are asking of backers by waiting so long for the revelations.

In regards to Box height, And it may already be planned, but most of the FFG CCG game boxes are tall enough to fit sleeved cards sideways, Just in case you got one lying around that you can use, Not sure on how that will affect production thats already been planned etc, but it would be awesome if it fit sleeved!

(CoolStuffInc is an automated process that scours for retail prices and then aggressively undercuts brick & mortar store pricing by selling at a razor thin margin. They are hurting the hobby. So on top of that, *not hurting the hobby* is a benefit, but I get that that's not much motivation for some!)

It's been made clear; that's why I've been talking about the circle of gratitude. You'll see, once we get past the circle of essentials and start working on that.

    14. Maria Amparo Bertram on

I was wondering the same thing as Jabsloth. CoolStuff is already advertising the game at a price of around $25. While I'm very excited for the game, what is my incentive for paying $49 now, when I could just wait and add it to a CoolStuff order for $25 and free shipping? That really hasn't been made clear in this campaign.

    15. Jabsloth on

Just checking, if there is no price break versus retail, all stretch goals cost extra, and we have to pay an additional $10 shipping, what is the benefit to being a backer? In other words, what motivation is there to give up our money a year in advance?

Besides a love of the source material.

There's lots of extra room in the box for expansions planned and not yet planned, so I suspect it should hold sleeved cards.

    17. J.R. Riedel on

      Random question for you!
Will the box be large enough that it will hold all the cards SLEEVED?
      Sometimes gaming can get messy!

Ease that cramp! You have it all correct. You can add now, or you can add later. In BackerKit you'll make your actual selections.

So I apologize if this has already been answered in other comments elsewhere, but... just to clarify when/how we can fund the expansions, we can either add $10/expansion now to our current pledge (i.e. $69 total for core game + all 3 expansions), OR we can add later when the BackerKit survey comes out?? Not exactly sure what I'm doing yet but I do want to make sure I don't miss out!
Again, sorry for the likely repeat question. My brain cramped around the 200th comment, so I probably missed it before.
Thanks so much! This project just keeps getting awesomer!! Or perhaps fuego-er, given the fire theme going on. If that's a word.

No worries, Amy. As you've seen elsewhere, you don't need to add more to the digital preview level to get the digital previews for the expansions — but it may be a few weeks or months before we roll those out.

    21. Amy Laurens on

Gah, sorry, didn't realise you'd already replied to this elsewhere! Apologies for being impatient :D

    22. Jason Hunt on

Thought so! Thanks for the confirmation!

    23. Amy Laurens on

Sorry, can I just confirm that if we're at the Paranet Previewer level we should also add $10 per expansion pack? Just checking because I see that an additional backer level for the physical game + expansion packs has been added, but not for the digital. Thanks! :)

"Do the expansions benefit from the Upgraded Art stretch goals (unique art for every foe, etc)?" — Absolutely! In fact that's one of the reasons we've made the increment for each expansion stretch $30k. (There are about half a dozen other factors going into that too, but that's one of them.)
