This was the campaign that kept on giving. Thanks for the ride and all the stories.
Just finished the trilogy and Khan of Mars, Keep up the good work guys, such fun pulp adventure goodness but again, with characterization that makes you really care! I'm on to King Khan and more!
Thanks Francis! We're very proud of the 6 books we've put out so far and we're excited to bring the final 7th one (the Benjamin Hu novel) soon as we can.
Outside of this KS, we've also started a young adult series based on Sally Slick, starting with Sally Slick and the Steel Syndicate. Check it out if you like. :)
I have, to my own disservice, only just gotten around to reading these fantastic books I backed some time ago now. I have been a fan of the spirit of the century rules since before I backed but I am really impressed by the dinocalypse trilogy, you managed to bring in pulp action, romance, drama and create extremely relatable and beliveable characters, some of whom are super-intelligent apes. Also; a Benjamin Hu stand-alone novel? Given that he has rapidly become by favourite character this is really exciting to hear, keep up the great work guys, so glad I backed you back in 2012!
Yup, once we get Pharaoh out (probably in the second half of this year), this will be a wrap!
I've lost track...so many great book. I am getting electronic copies. Is the only ebook left to deliver "The Pharaoh of Hong Kong"?
Just wanted to say thanks! Just keep getting more books from this kickstarter I pledged to years ago. Hope this has been a positive experience for you as it has been for me.
Both C.E. Murphy's Stone's Throe and Carrie Harris's Dinocalypse Forever are deep into the editing process. I'm not 100% sure which one will emerge as the next release, but they'll probably show up pretty close to each other!
Any new updates on the progress coming soon? Look forward to the third book.
You know, as far as I'm concerned changing writers midstream just makes this even MORE like one of the real pulps. But for maximum verisimilitude, you should have come up with some clever pseudonym and used it for all of the books, regardless of who wrote them. :)
Yup! I figured over a year in I could cancel the paid service. Contact me via private message and I'll work out how to get you other copies. Please save 'em all to an automatically-backed-up service like Dropbox or similar!
Hi, most of the links to ebooks in the backers section are dead...well all the sendspace ones seem to be. Just trying to get copies since I lost them in a bit of a backup disaster. Thanks.
The draft of C.E. Murphy's STONE'S THROE has just gone to editing, tho. :)
Nope. We've had to push it out to the Summer; Chuck's star is rising fast enough that he had to juggle his schedule a bit.
Has Dinocalypse Forever been released and I totally missed that?
Ahhhh -- silly Amazon! TY
Amazon isn't always good at connecting the ebooks we publish through their ebook program to the stuff they've produced/bought for sale themselves. :)
I didn't realize the fate core was getting more of the awesome Spirit of the Century novels. Keep finding more and more reasons I wish I had pledged to that one :þ
On Amazon, if you look at "Spirit of the Century Presents: King Khan" it only has the print edition and the audible edition on that page. I originally thought the ebook wasn't on there. Then I found the kindle edition listed as "King Khan (Spirit of the Century Presents)" and wasn't sure why.... (at least that's how it is on my office chrome and home firefox browsers)
Correct, the Sally Slick young adult prequel came from a different kickstarter (Fate Core's).
Linked in what posting?
So is the Sally Slick book not a part of this? (which is fine, I'll just order it off amazon in case audible whispersync's it). I was also wondering why King Khan kindle and print editions on amazon are not linked in posting...
Hope you had a happy Holiday. Looking forward to Amelia and Benjamin and now Sally :)
There've been four. Brian Clevinger hasn't finished his Benjamin Hu novel yet, and C.E. Murphy hasn't started her Amelia Stone one (scheduling difficulties are largely to blame for both delays—the novels are not their only activity); Chuck's on a "one Dinocalypse per year" plan so as to accommodate the rest of his novel-writing career, so the final Dinocalypse novel, Dinocalypse Forever, is slated for a summer 2014 release.
So right now we're in a bit of a lull period — tho folks who are interested in seeing the SOTC universe through a Young Adult fiction lens will have a new novel from outside this KS to look forward to this December: http://www.evilhat.com/home/sally-slick-and-the-steel-syndicate/
Any news on the next novel? There have been 4 releases right? :D
Beyond Dinocalypse has landed as an audiobook on Audible! http://www.audible.com/pd/ref=sr_1_1…
Go back through the updates and download the versions that were made available over the past year, Mad_Knight. That's how. :)
I guess I'm stupid but how do I get the new books without having to pay another $6? I enjoyed the first one very much and hope the rest are just as good.
Re. Mars on the horizon, I'm happy to wait until all formats are ready before getting the next book. I prefer to read ePub so will be waiting anyway :-)
Congratulations on Race to Adventure getting funded.
I did finish Dinocalypse Now after getting the print version and I'm looking forward to the next books. Haven't yet reviewed it on Amazon, hopefully I'll get to it soon.
Finally got my copy yesterday, after its global tour. :) I was told it got to its US address at the last moment. It was cool seeing the print copy of Spirit of the Season. Reminded me of my good old roleplaying days.
Just got my copy in the mail!
Thank you guys, going to start reading soon!!!
Thanks! Review-inclined folks (and folks who want to share the kindle version with others) can find it here: http://www.amazon.com/Dinocalypse-Spirit-Century-Presents-ebook/dp/B007ZRSCHO/iagonet
I'm loving the book so far, and I wish someone will make a movie out of it. I'll put a review on Amazon when I finish it. (I'd probably have finished it in a day if I didn't have too much "life" in my life.)
Hi Matt -- As far as the physical books go, that'll depend on available page count (print has certain cost-break induced restrictions). I'm sure (if I remember!) that getting the names into the e-book versions won't be any trouble. :)
@Fred Hicks Will the thanks be in every book we helped to fund?
Thanks, sorry for my confusion (been there a lot lately!) I either forgot to d/l them before or lost (track of) them.
Sonia -- the Spirit of the Century & Spirit of the Season PDFs were included in the download link on Update #12 -- http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/evilhat/spirit-of-the-century-presents-the-dinocalypse-tri/posts/213719
Thank you, I'll work on it -- may just do with the PDFs.
Next question -- what about the SotC game -- or did I already get that & I've forgotten? or is it coming later, or from somewhere else or what.
Yours in confusion....
Here's one way: http://www.youtube.com/watch…
AFAIK, Kindle also comes with the ability to email the file to a special address and get it added to your device/bookshelf.
With iTunes, I believe you can simply drag the file to iTunes and then sync it up to your device of choice.
OK I got the files, now what do I do?
How do I get (whichever) version onto either Kindle or iTunes? I'm used to getting such books directly from Amazon or iTunes, don't have experience with this method.
No problems opening the PDFs at least.
I just downloaded them all to be sure, heh.
.mobi = Kindle. The two .epubs are for the nook and iBooks respectively; you should be able to use the one that does NOT have the hyphen-author-name format without trouble. Content's identical, it's just different format "standards" at work for different devices.
The file dates of all files inside the epubs (epubs are just ZIP files) are identical, except one additional file META-INF/calibre_bookmarks.txt which is newer on exists only in the one with Chucks name in the filename and the content.opf file, which is slightly changed.
The Chuck content.opf has hrefs with spaces, the other one uses quoted encoding. This seems to be the only difference.
All the technical blah skipped: the pure content seems to be the same.
The package (via DriveThru) contains two epub files (among other things): one named "Dinocalypse Now.epub" (size 1001327 bytes), another named "Dinocalypse Now - Chuck Wendig.epub" (size 1001629). Any idea which one is the latest one? Or are these for different devices or some such?
Just finished reading the first book. What a fun ride! Can't wait for part two of the trilogy!
I got it and man, my heart is exploding seeing me name in a book. (Which tells me WTF am I doing? I need to actually try to publish something already.)
If it is not working at this point contact DriveThru customer service and they'll straighten you out.
*Waits... sort of patiently* Still not working for me, BUT I WILL WAIT. So worth it. Chuck Wendig is amazing. <3
Matt from DriveThru tells me they'll all be sent out in the next hour or so. If you run into a problem, contact DriveThru customer service and he'll get you squared away.
Thank you, will do.
Yes, that's the error message folks are getting when they get an error message.
Ah, it says I have an invalid discount URL.
